My choice for something that I'm going to frame and hang in my home is matte. Have been using Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper MATTE which I like for its bright whites, dark blacks and vibrant colors. If I'm doing work for a customer, I would let them select the finish.

Yes, I too have some fond memories of LRE. While it's founder was alive, it was a great company to be associated with. Unfortunately, when he passed people took over that didn't know the market or the suppliers and the company took a nose dive. I still have some audio equipment left from those days. Bought my first 35mm SLR (Miranda Sensorex) from them also. And my good friend Walter was the manager of the Union Square store that you mention.

Those were the good old days! Thanks for your comments.

The Nikon Store (nikonusa.com) is offering the D5200 w/ the 18-140mm zoom for $949.95 new. I don't know if that combo would appeal to you, but it seems like an attractive price.

Check out Cameta.com - They offer a lot of factory refurbished Nikon products, either individually or in kit form. For example, the D7100 with 32GB card and some other little stuff sells for $959.95 inc. shipping. As of this morning, they are out of stock but that can change .

As for why buy refurbished, in addition to the price advantage, I believe you get a better product. Years ago I worked for Lafayette Radio in Engineering, Product Service and Quality Control. This is what I learned. Most things nowadays are constructed, built and calibrated by machine - if the machine is off, so are all the products generated by it. Also many times improvements are made during production runs, many times based on the experiences of the technicians who repair the defects. And these people are fanatics about making everything that they touch perfect. Your refurbished camera will likely have all the latest updates and the critical adjustments will be exactly what they should be.

I bought my D7100 from Cameta back in July, actually paid a bit more for it than the current price, but I will state that I am 100% satisfied with the camera and the service. All of my new system; body, lenses and strobe are refurbished.

Enjoy your new camera!

The 'MC' on this lense means Multi-Coated, the 'CA' on the aperture ring indicates Canon. The breach lock design was discontinued after the 'A' series was introduced. (AE1, AV1. AL1, new A1)

288 photos taken on glass, the quality is unbelievable.

Be prepared to spend some time here, but well worth it if you are a History buff or just interested in old photography.

If the receiver has tape inputs and outputs it will also have a switch to activate them. I might be called Tape or Monitor or Tape Monitor or something similar. Make sure it is turned off.

When you shoot using available lighting and the lighting is predominantly fluorescent, use a CC-FLD (color correction - fluorescent to daylight) filter. Don't expect perfection, because every lamp is different, but you will have a more natural looking photo.

This is , I believe, from the third production of ANIMUSIC which are stated to be 'a computer animation video album'. PBS has aired at least one of these during their weeks in which they request viewer support. I have purchased the first two, now I guess I'll have to go back to well one more time.

I don't have any knowledge of where you purchased your equipment. Im sure that more and more people shop online for the best price, unfortunately, that reduces the amount of assistance available to you at your local camera shop.

I have spent many years in the photography business; as a photograper, as a salesman, operating the photo lab and as a manager and owner.

The folks at these locations have immense knowledge; both with photography and its equipment, and enjoy sharing it. Most companies allow their staff to handle new product to become familiar with it, you may even run into someone who shoots with the same stuff you do.

Some stores even hold classes.

Pay them a visit, please.

I have worked at many mall located camera stores, and in every case, the mall management forbade photography within unless previous permission was granted. This is about keeping competitors from knowing what is taking place in that location, i.e. traffic, new tenants, conditions, etc.
This is not about terrorism. The camera store has no interest in prohibiting picture taking.

Have you considered using fill flash outdoors? It allows you to chose a location that won't have your subject squinting so you'll have a more natural expression. As previously mentioned, don't cut off limbs.

You might look into software called PORTRAIT PROFESSIONAL to solve the complexion problem and improve portraits in general.

Picture #1 Try with a little more depth of field (smaller apeture) so that the tips of the spikes are sharp.

Picture #2 I would suggest the following: Re-orient the camera to the vertical (portrait) orientation. Lower the camera so that you are not looking down on the subject. And get rid of tne other photographer.

Most important, have fun and create what you like.
