Depends on what you want to spend too. I use a Canon Pro 9500 Mark II, has ten individual ink tanks, one color runs out, you only replace that tank. Prints up to 13" x 19" boarderless. They use pigmented ink, and that say they last about 100 years. That's as good as photo print. I'm very happy with it.

I have an older Epson C-88. Prints really nice, but nothing like enlargements I get from Kodak.
My 2 cents.
It really depends what purpose you are printing for. If just for snapshots up to 8X10 most brands of photo printers do a good job. If you go to larger prints and want great quality go for Epson or Canon with larger size capability. I did a lot of research before I bought an Epson 3800 which prints on up to 17 by 22 inch paper. I have been extremely pleased with the results I get with this printer. I use several different papers with corresponding paper profiles.
I have started printing for several other photographers as well as selling my prints. So far everyone has been very pleased with the prints I have done on this printer. I'm now looking into purchasing a 44 inch printer to add to my ability to print for others and myself.
Manufactures are always bringing out new printers with more bells and whistles. This also means you can get some great deals on printers as they usually offer deep discounts in the form of rebates. Do your research and take advantage of any discounts you can find.

Be good......He's watching :P
Canon has just release a new printer that is getting good reviews.
Sorry can't remember it's name, but it was earlier in the week so it shouldn't be hard to find with google.
I use an hp9180 and an epson 3800. Neither is no longer available.
I started with an epson c88plus which i used with all gray inks to learn about netural black and white printing,
It also made very nice color prints.
Remember good printing is more than just clicking away.

I've had 2 or 3 Epsons including the C-88. It DOES print really well and has separate cartridges for colors (3) and black, for which I can buy extra capacity cartridges.
I've always used Epson ink and papers, but it's really the paper that I don't like.
I've also bought Epson 17 x 22 inch paper which, when cut in half, allows me to make an 8 & 1/2 x 22 inch print. That's the format I like best.
Alas, the printer seems to have a blockage somewhere which catches the paper on the first pass. Each sheet after the first of the day has a small crumple in the upper right hand corner.
I don't think it's worth fixing.
Santa really likes Epson Stylus photo Printers. Basically, you buy them by the maximum width needed. I have had an Epson Photo 1400 for well over a year. The prints are amazing. They print pretty much exactly what I see on my iMac screen. Mine is pretty BIG, but I love it. It does take 6 ink cartridges, but I have found that you can get a good number of prints per cartridge. Since what I see on the screen is what prints, there is no trial and error. I got mine for $300. Santa also loves Epson photo paper. I use Ultra Premium Presentation Matte 8 X 10 paper. It is heavy duty and goes for around $20 for 50 sheets. The cartridges are $18. One of the best things about the supplies is that my local camera store has all of these supplies and it's just around the corner.

Epson 1400, eh. About $300. Santa may need a little help.
8 x 10 paper? I thought the standard size was 8.5 x 11. Does it take larger paper sizes?
Yes 13x19 awesome printer for the money
You can find some 8x10 inkjet paper, but it isn't common.
8.5 x 11 is the standard starting pint as it fits the aspect ratio better.

OK, that looks like the future printer of choice.
Nice eagle. Was in AK this summer. Saw plenty of eagles but my Canon p&s couldn't handle the overcast skies. Got a good picture of a rescued eagle in a cage in Juneau.
Thanks for the info.
