Is it wrong to be completely frustrated with a "photographer" who has no idea what equipment she has nor what said equipment is even capable of? How on earth can you take decent photos if you have no idea what F stop or focal length any of your lenses are and can't even recal the exact type of camera you have? 😁
Ok I'm done.

Not everyone was born an Ansel Adams. No matter our vocations or hobbies everyone starts off not knowing anything. It is called a learning process. If you do not want to read her posts then don't.

Canon (or any other mfg.) is not going to make something no one wants. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Hello
I'm Aneishi,
I just bought the camera I've admired for years...Nikon D7100. Now, I wonder if I did the right thing. This camera is so much more than a beginners camera. I've only gotten to page 4 of the instructions...that's where I'm staying. I've copied pages 4 & 5...cut off the words so only the camera and the lines to the different buttons are left. I've been studying every day what the buttons and parts of the camera are for. Each lines says what that particular button is for followed by the page # to find out how to use the button: for exp; the depth of field...go to page such and such. I understand that one...but some of the buttons I think are written in Latin. My question; is it imperative to know every single button on this camera right away. I know there are 3 pillars of photography; aperture, ISO and shutter speed. If I learn these 3 components, will I be able to start taking photo and then learn the rest as I go along or should I wait until I know the camera inside and out?
Thanks so much.
Hello br I'm Aneishi, br I just bought the camera... (show quote)

Welcome from another novice. I have found this series of books extremely helpful. I have one for both of my cameras. Happy shooting.

If you were a real computer user you would have been using the PC all along, rather than the toy from Apple that costs three times as much as a real computer with the same power, capability and ease of use.

And little, if no, virus issues.

Buy, get, use a USB flash drive. Plug it into the DELL'S USB port, drag or copy all the jpeg or Raw files from the DELL onto the USB flash drive and then eject the USB drive. Then take the USB drive and plug it into the USB port of the MAC. You're good to go. Jpegs are jpegs, raw is raw, the pictures are the same either on a PC or a MAC.

Reading this thread reminds me of the guy who asked what time it was and was told how to build a clock. I have both platforms and transfer files (not apps) all the time on a 64G thumbdrive bought on sale at Walmart. Somewhat slow but who cares? Format the thumbdrive for the PC since Macs don't care but most PCs don't read Mac formatted discs.

If you have access to a Mac there is an app at the apple store called shutter count. Costs about $2 but it is very simple, works great and is a whole lot easier than Googleing for hours and coming up dry.

I don;t think 11 will open the 7 DII you need a latter version. Cisco had a sale in the new version I don't know if it still on sale.

Adobe Raw 8.7 is the first version to support the 7Dii. Elements 13 has 8.6 but is upgradable.

Just received my new canon 7d mark ii, after 5 days getting familiar with all the new features I shot a kids party in raw. I downloaded the files with my card reader but Photoshop elements 11 will not open the files. Do I need to upgrade to 14?

I have two Canons and both produce .cr2 raw files. However on my Mac with OSX 10.6 my Elements 11 uses Adobe Raw 7.1 and is not upgradable. Adobe has a freebie app. Adobe DNG Converter "DNG" is also RAW. I use it on copies of the files prior to opening in PSE 11 on the Mac. On my Windows PC I was able to upgrade the Adobe Camera Raw to version 7.4 which does not require any pre conversion so Elements opens it right up. Of course you can update to a newer version of Elements if you want to. My way is free.

Hope I did not confuse you with all the Adobes

I bought a Canon SL1 with an 18-55 kit lens, all paperwork and DVD from Canon, online, for $299.00 shipped. Looks new, works great, low shutter count. Keep a lookout for specials. :-) :-)

Paintshop Pro sounds like something I would like to try. Since I will never own Photoshop unless it drops to under $100 (not likely in my lifetime) this thread has whetted my appetite with all the positive PSP reviews. Can someone tell me exactly what is different between PSP and PSPU? Is the main program the same in both, with Ultimate having a few extra goodies, or are the two different other than the goodies? In other words, is Ultimate worth $10 more.

Thanks

Gee! I bought a Canon a few months back that had a shutter count of 2198. Is it wore out?

Too bad sellers don't include the SC in their ads like mileage on a car.

I do not own a smart phone and more than likely never will. One thing however seems to amaze me is their lack of any set up requirements. We went to a neighborhood Halloween party and the smart phones were out in force. It seemed to me that all you need to do is click the shutter. Good light, bad light, no light the pictures were clear and seemingly well exposed. What did I miss???

Hello,
I don't know if this is the answer that you want, but I rented the flash gear and I don't remember the brand. I think it was pocket wizard, but not sure. What ever, there was a little transmitter that went on my camera in the hot shoe, then a gizmo on the four flashes mounted on, I would guess the brand does not matter, but it was radio freq not infrared transmitted. All the flashes were set on manual, so that if I needed more or less light from a given flash, then we could just move it closer or further. We used four flash units. One from high above and between the camera and bird to simulate the sun; a fill flash near the camera, a back lighting flash behind the bird to put a glow on the beak and head, and then one on the background. We manually focused on the target flower, and waited for the birds to come. Camera settings were 1/200 at f11 about 400-500 ISO - all manual settings. Since my wife and I were both shooting I alternated between a 300mm f2.8 and a 70-200mm f2.8 lens.
Don't know if that helps, but by going to Costa Rica for a few days of photography for hummingbirds, I have hundreds of photos that are good enough to publish. Density of birds was such that I was shooting about 700 frames per hour! If you need better info, send me a PM and i'll look up my notes from 2013 when I made the photos
