Problems opening raw file with elements 11

Just received my new canon 7d mark ii, after 5 days getting familiar with all the new features I shot a kids party in raw. I downloaded the files with my card reader but Photoshop elements 11 will not open the files. Do I need to upgrade to 14?

Check the Adobe site. They have info on what versions are compatible with what cameras.

Enjoy that new camera.

You will need Elements 13 or 14, or you could use Adobes DNG converter to convert your 7D Mark II .cr2 files to .DNG.

Yes, upgrade. And to get the most from your camera, get the subscription to Lightroom and Photoshop - you can edit 16 bit files which your camera is capable of, in ProPhoto color space, which Adobe recommends for image processing, and you can retain nearly all of the image data recorded by the camera. Much of PSE is done in 8 bit which does not accommodate large color spaces very well, and it tosses a ton of image data. If you already know how to use PSE, you can use PS pretty much in the same manner, and as your skills improve you have better tools to work with. LR is a great way to keep you organized, and it has a great raw converter (the same 16 bit converter found in PS). Have fun.

I have two Canons and both produce .cr2 raw files. However on my Mac with OSX 10.6 my Elements 11 uses Adobe Raw 7.1 and is not upgradable. Adobe has a freebie app. Adobe DNG Converter "DNG" is also RAW. I use it on copies of the files prior to opening in PSE 11 on the Mac. On my Windows PC I was able to upgrade the Adobe Camera Raw to version 7.4 which does not require any pre conversion so Elements opens it right up. Of course you can update to a newer version of Elements if you want to. My way is free.

Hope I did not confuse you with all the Adobes

I don;t think 11 will open the 7 DII you need a latter version. Cisco had a sale in the new version I don't know if it still on sale.

Adobe Raw 8.7 is the first version to support the 7Dii. Elements 13 has 8.6 but is upgradable.
