I believe this is not your everyday photo angle of Balanced Rock. The off-set is striking. Also, the middle portion of the rock is a different type than the top and bottom. It would be nice to go back a few hundred thousand years to see how it looked then; how it formed, etc. The photo does not do it justice. If you ever make it to Utah, Arches NP is a must see.

Fine shot. A lot going on there with the rocks, the moon in the middle and the snow capped mountain back right.

My wife kinda sorta fusses at me over the number of pictures I take while on vacation. I tell her that you never know in the hundreds of pictures which one will be spot on. The wow factor. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for this shot. I humbly say this one has the wow factor.

I often feel like I'm paying for my landline just so scammers and robocallers have somewhere to call. My family now calls on my cellphone instead.

I get an amazing number of robo calls. Pressing "2" opt out does no good. Frustrating!!!

Here in Northern Va. I get the police association related calls. I ask if the person is a policeman - answer - no. I ask how much of the donation goes to the police and how much goes to the marketing company.

Answer - 85% to the marketing company and 15% to the police. My reply - good-by. These folks are dishonest and out to make money for themselves. Buyer beware!!

I hope you do not think I referred to SS as being income redistribution, if I did it was a mistake in sentence composition. That retirement insurance the Govt forced me purchase is paying out now and helps maintain the standard of living I am accustomed to.

Left the not out but it is to late to edit.

No harm no foul. I am with you and I too sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. All good with me. Thanks. Vaughan K.

I do really think that SS and Medicare are to be considered income redistribution. These two items were basically paid for by those now receiving them and are the largest part of taxes sent back to the states.

I respectfully disagree on SS being income redistribution. Sounds like you are a proponent of Al Gore's fuzzy math concerning SS. I paid into SS for 45 years and am now collecting. If the government would let me have the choice in not paying SS I would have invested the money. I would be much better off and not relying on Uncle Sam to make the payments.

Nice composition, Vaughan. And don't let alby worry you ... that "left one" has stood like that for very many moons.

Thanks for breaking the code. I figured alby was referencing a different picture.

Any shooting details you'd care to pass along such as camera, lens, setting, and any post processing involved. It is definitely a keeper. The rising moon really helps hold the eye, balance between the two peaks no pun intended. Are you planning to print this gem?

This picture was taken in October 2006 with a Canon A75 (see pics). The only post processing is a very minor tweak with Photoshop 2019 to the Levels and Curves to warm the colors a bit. Pictures similar to this make me wonder why we (including me) hundreds of dollars on the latest and greatest. The saying, "Sometimes better is the worst enemy of good enough" appears to apply here. Not to say modern technology is not nice to have but, for everyday photography, lots of whistles and bells are not required. Also, this was my first digital camera.

For those that do not like the current system/administration you will have a chance to make change. Looks like we will have more than one choice who favors free healthcare for all, free education for all, open borders, the elimination of air travel and cows, higher taxes, free income for all (even if you don't feel like working), and my favorite of all - income redistribution. I guess the government will look at my IRA and decide that I have too much money and decide to give it to the dude that doesn't feel like working. Tag on sensing sessions so we will have a better understanding and compassion for the folks that kill women and children. All you have to do is pull the right lever and life will be good. Yeah right.

Interesting thread. Always interesting when folks are discussing money, who has what, who is or is not paying their fair share, what constitutes "rich" and "not rich". I have a High School education. Did 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as an enlisted guy and then worked for one of the local defense contractors for 25 years and then retired. I saved my money. Lived in the same house for 20 plus years. I have three hots and a cot each day. I don't care what others make or the taxes they pay. My house is a castle compared to the folks living in garbage dumps in India. My Ford F150 is a high end luxury car when compared to someone who has to walk to work. I am thankful for what I have. Things could be a whole lot worse. There is an old saying....."Comparison is the worst enemy of contentment". I am content.
