I just received a phone call from an organization calling itself “Homes for Veterans,” asking for a donation for veterans. Being a veteran myself I said sure. They wanted my credit card information but I said mail me the information, however they were insistent. So I asked “What organization is this?” and they hung up.
There are a lot of scams out there directed at Veterans, so be careful. This call came from a 360 area code which is the western side of Washington State, the Seattle area. (caveat emptor) Seamus
Thanks, there's a lot of unscrupulous people out there; sad really. I too am a Navy veteran, Vietnam Era.
Screen calls and let callers you don't know go to voicemail. By answering the call you verified your number as being good, so more scammers will call you. We constantly get scam charity calls as well as ones from lical utilities, the IRS, and a grandson calling for us to pay his bail. If it's a legit call they'll leave a message and you can call back.

Thanks for your service - I joined in '69 and saw the world until '90 - good times...
Scammers go for a 25% success rate on phone calls. That's a lot of scam money. Especially if the calls are in the thousands.
Also, before you give to a charity, go to CharityNavigator dot org.
You can look up a charity and see its rating, how much goes to their mission vs their CEO, advertising costs, etc. Then decide which will actually do the most for veterans before you send your $$ down the rabbit hole.

I never donate in response to phone solicitations, like you I ask them to mail me information.

The big red flag was, “I just received a phone call” and “They wanted my credit card info”.
There is a scammer here in So-Cal that calls and says he’s from the Fraternal Order of Police and asks for donations “For the kids”. Says he will come pick up a check from you. No credit cards, just cash or check. Called a friend and had him come over and park his unmarked car out front after I told the scammer to come get the check. Funny, but he never showed up.
Nomorobo doesnt block all scam calls, just known ones. With scammers, where there's a will there's a way. And thete are enough people who fall for them they kep on trying. Apparently millennials fall for these scams even though you'd think they'd be more savvy.
I got one today asking for my credit card number so they could refund me my payment that made to Microsoft a few months ago, they need to refund me because the company has gone out of business.. Well I haven't made a payment to Microsoft, AND I dont think Microsoft has gone out of business either. Really getting tired of these scams and robo calls.
Here in Northern Va. I get the police association related calls. I ask if the person is a policeman - answer - no. I ask how much of the donation goes to the police and how much goes to the marketing company.
Answer - 85% to the marketing company and 15% to the police. My reply - good-by. These folks are dishonest and out to make money for themselves. Buyer beware!!
