The most useful advice I got before the one doors-off photo flight I took - probably 30 years ago, to get overall photographs of a large civic event (several hundred thousand in the area we were covering) from the air - was to bring some duct tape. Explanation: use it to tape the seatbelt buckle closed once you're strapped in, because there's a risk of your camera strap catching on it and pulling it open while you move around to get a shot. I thought you'd have to be pretty careless to let that happen, but I brought the tape anyway and used it as directed. And yep - my strap caught on the buckle at one point during the flight. Made a believer out of me.

As for equipment - it was long enough ago that I was using Nikons and Ektachrome (provided by the event) and almost certainly a mid-range Nikon zoom as they were interested in the overall crowd, not small details from above. It was a sunny day and I had polarizers, but even with one my recollection of the slides is that everything looked hazy, compared to the shots I took on the ground during the rest of the event. Perhaps not surprising given it was St. Louis in the summer, next to the Mississippi River.

If you shoot wide open you will have a very shallow depth of field!

Consider the Tamron 18mm to 400mm lens. You only need one lens and at 400mm you have the equivalent of about 640mm.

An excellent educational source is the Photographic Society of America. Dues are only $40 per year and you get an electronic copy of their monthly magazine. They have many free courses which are included with your annual membership. Their course " Digital Photography" takes you from the very basics of ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed to applying this in additional subjects such as: Portraits using available light, architecture, night photography, still life photography, Things Up Close photography, action and sports, animals and landscapes. You are assigned to an instructor who will answer your questions, evaluate your assignments and will guide you. The website for the Photographic Society of America is www.psa-photo.org. Go to the education tab for a full description of this course and all of their other courses.

The simplest analogy is to think of f stops as fractions. f/4 would be 1/4th of an apple pie. f/16 is only 1/16th of the apple pie.

PSE 2021 is well worth the price because of all of the added features. Most of the time it is on sale for less than $99 list price. It is well worth the cost to get PS 2021

I do not think your 24-600 zoom lens will focus at a close enough distance for you to get a 1:1 ratio at 600mm. I tried it with my 70-300mm lens some time ago and that is why I ended up buying Canon's 100mm macro lens.

Check on battery life between the two. At one time Canon SX series had much better battery life. That is why I bought my wife an SX 40 back when and it worked great for her.

P Mode is better than Automatic Mode because you can set your ISO in P Mode and Automatic Mode will not let you make any changes to your camera.

Generally speaking, as taught in photography classes, mainly use Aperture Priority for depth of field and Shutter Priority to either freezing or blurring motion. Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority is quicker than Manual Mode.

I've used a program called Audials One 2021 for recording and converting youtube videos and it works great.. It will convert youtube and many other streaming sources to different formats. It is a streaming recorder and recording media organizer. It normally sells for $79.90 and I just went to their website and it is on sale for $59.97. It will convert youtube and burn it to a disc with ease.

Hi UHH Friends--I need suggestions for poses, simple lighting and your lens recommendation from my kit for a photo session I am doing for a female friend's 100 year old mom (birthday February--the birthday girl is reluctant and we don't think she will tolerate a professional photographer!). I am a hobbyist and mostly take landscape and product photos for fun and photo books. I have a Nikon D750. Lenses that would be appropriate--Nikon 85 mm 1.8, Nikon 105mm 2.8, Nikon 50 1.4 mm, and Tammy 24-70 2.8. I am willing to purchase some type of lighting--I have reflectors and the SB Nikon 600. I have done some review online about having the angle of the camera a bit above the subject, shallow depth of field, blurred or no distracting background. I will practice beforehand and I know her tolerance of the shoot time will be short. I would appreciate any tips that you are willing to share!

The wise men travelled from the east, visited King Herod and then went to Bethlehem. Their travel time, following the star, may have been a year or more.

I have an old GE PR-1 light meter that still works. I also have the manual and leather case. I don't have the attachment for incident light so it measures reflected light like our DSLRs. If you are interested my e-mail is johnkg7j@cox.net

It isn't a true macro lens unless you have a 1:1 ratio.

I recommend that you crop off part of the left side of the bird bath and most of the sky above the bird. That way the bird is definitely the subject of your image. The bird would be placed in the left 3rd of your cropped image and produce a more dynamic image.
