thanks for the positive feedback everyone. I guess I should let you in on a secret, my name is Kevin not Kelvin. I use 212kelvin because it is a play on the boiling point of water in Fahrenheit and degress Kelvin. It is also a play on my name and location. 212 being the area code for NY city, I never lived there. Online sometimes I like to throw people off, keep'em guessing. So there you have it, my name is Kevin not Kelvin. I guess I could have went for 415kevin which would be my area code and name. But somehow that isn't as fun.

I love the geometric abstract of this series. I think if they were mine, I would work on them in black and white, straighten and crop as much as possible. But this is a great group!

I like to take shots of the city without signs, cars, people, wires, etc. Now that you say it, I think it is the abstract geometry I'm after. Never thought of it like that before. Thanks for your thoughts!

San Francisco seems to have an eclectic variety of doors, windows and bricks. Very nice.

truth be told, I believe that there are many interesting things everywhere. These just happen to be where I live.

I believe you are mistaken about the blackened bricks. These are clinkers, bricks that were blackened (and often deformed) in the original firing of the clay. In earlier days, when the even heating of brick kilns was problematic, clinkers were common. Clinkers were sold as inferior but cheaper bricks. As you're in San Francisco, I suggest you wander through Chinatown, particularly some of the smaller streets and alleys. You'll find many buildings where clinkers are used as decorative accents.

My house had a chimney built of clinkers, until it started leaning after the Loma Prieta earthquake. It seems the original mortar had been made using beach sand (not uncommon for the era), and the salt in the sand had, over the decades, reduced the mortar to not much more than the original sand. It was only a later repointing that held the chimney together at all. The clinkers from the chimney have been recycled into planters.

According to the Library of Congress (https://www.loc.gov/item/00694425)
'The demolition took place on May 9, 1906. St. Patrick's Church was rebuilt on this site in much the same style, using the same bricks over a steel frame. "

And here is an article from the SFGate about Earthquake-scarred bricks. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Earthquake-scarred-bricks-put-on-a-show-4740899.php#photo-5055343

You may be right that some of the bricks. even most of the bricks, are clinkers. But some of them are salvaged from the wreckage of the 1906 earthquake. Based on the 2 reliable sources I quoted, I stand by my assertion that many of the fat uneven bricks are from the 1906 quake.

Window screens are practically non-existent in San Francisco so it is common to see curtains blowing in the wind. I took these in about 2004 or 5.

More bricks
#9 is a wall of bricks with salvaged ones from the 1906 Earthquake and fire. You can see the blackened bricks, those are from the fire that came after the earthquake. That wall is on the Armory in the Mission which was built in 1914.

One day I felt like I kept running into a wall. Here's what came out of that, and what got me unstuck. Bricks. Lots of different bricks. The first one here is the first wall I ran into. Then the rest followed within a few days.

Well, it was just a suggestion. Some people will sue for that or accuse you of stalking them. Would you really want to have to go to court to prove you're "just a photographer who likes to take pictures of windows"?

that wouldn't be hard to prove, neither would no expectation of privacy with the blinds open. They would lose their case. besides they would have to call the police who would have to come catch me taking the photo. Unlikely that would happen since I take one photo and move on. if I was there taking photo after photo maybe, but not one photo. And if I were to sell such photo I would need a model release and they would have to sign off on it. I know the rules. And in San Francisco it's normal to see someone taking photos of your house. How would they know I was taking a photo of their window anyway?

I'd be careful that you don't shoot windows where you can see people inside. Might get arrested for being a "peeping tom".

they shouldn't leave the blinds open if they expect privacy.
