Aside from our right to shoot photos in public places, it is understandable that a parent or guardian might be apprehensive and jump to conclusions about an adult stranger (especially if it's a male) taking photos of kids in any setting. It is perfectly natural to be protective of the children...regardless of our rights. Put yourself in their shoes, for a moment.
"Gee, I'm going somewhere soon and might bring my camera. Should I bring a lens, too?"
I say: "The schmuck behind the camera isn't too bad, either."
And the person behind the camera counts as much or more than the age of the gear!
Just installed Ubuntu version of Linux on a 10-year-old laptop that was way too slow for Windows 10. Now, with Linux, it zips along like a new machine. I did full install after trial run -- CD does it all, including dumping old Windows. Back up files first. Comes with Libre Office and Firefox browser. I don't think that it works with PaintShop or PhotoShop but does with free GIMP and some other simpler PP programs. I just wish that I went Linux ages ago. If you don't want to make your own downloaded CD, Amazon offers it for $8.95, in both 32-bit and 64-bit. Linux rocks!
For this and other reasons, I am beginning to use (and learn) the Linux operating system (Ubuntu, in my case)...it's free and you can have it alongside Windows with dual-booting, giving you both and losing nothing. Keeping Windows allows you to continue using your existing post-processing software, while there are several free PPs for Linux, including GIMP.
Another vote for the Nikon B700, for the reasons cited -- especially when traveling by plane. It travels better than my DSLR outfit and does a fine job in most situations. I sometimes add a compact tripod(collapses to 8 inches).
For that trip, my preference was wide-angle...it's about the scenery! I was never much beyond 100mm.
Maybe it's circular polarizing filter??????????????
Google Photos for quick, basic edits & Photoshop Elements 15 w/Elements+ for special shots that will be printed (by outside labs)
Round images? Remember the Zenith TV with a round picture tube? How did that go over?
Landscape, mostly...and most anything that's eye-catching but not grotesque...,trains, too.
Thanks to all for your suggestions...there's nothing better than advice from folks who know.
Hopefully, I can eventually contribute as much to this site as I have received on this topic and others.
As someone once said, there's no one from whom one cannot learn something.
We all can learn from each other, no matter the topic.
