Is it me or is the main discussion forum gradually being taken over by people going on holiday and asking what lens to take and where to go for photo ops. There is I think five topics in today’s Main forum asking these sort of questions. Isn’t it about time there was a separate area for these topics. Sorry to be negative about this.

I would love a separate travel / photography section. Then I wouldn't have to wade through those endless bird and flower posts to find an interesting topic. Some days UHH is more like a gardening club than a photography forum.

It does get a little old. Almost like: "Look at me - I have lots of gear and I'm going on a great trip". It is not a question that others can answer - it is YOUR trip. Assuming you know how to use your equipment. You have to just make your decision and go with it! Maybe there should be some non-expiring sections for education and/or location tips. After all, the suggestions for Florence Italy and for that great African safari don't really change weekly with the next question posed.

If you put everything into its own category, you may run the risk of decreasing the amount of people who see things. Isn’t the site about helping others and learning? The one benefit about the topics is that you don’t have to open them up and read them if they don’t pertain to you.

You could also subdivide legal questions, how to charge for things, repairs and maintanence, items going on sale, shooting techniques, lighting and everything else into it’s own category. This has been done with many things, and I’ve also talked to many people who consistently forget to go to all topics and find their area which means that some people could go without the benefit of a subject experts advice because the expert didn’t feel like going there or didn’t know there was a question that they could help with.

I know that I wouldn’t have responded to half of the topics because I spend most of my time on the main page and only go to the groups on occasion.

That being said I would be interested to hear what you would prefer to remain on the main topic page?

I'm trying to get the local newspaper to cut out a lot of stuff and print things more to my liking, so I understand your dilemma.

I may have to change newspapers.

I may just skip the articles I'm not interested in.

The travel/gear posts don't bother me a bit.
It is fine to read where people are traveling and what gear they plan to take.

I am pretty sure you are not alone in your thoughts.

These people should try thinking for themselves.

I Agree BUT If you are not a regular reader and don't scan the news letter you are not aware that it has been gone over and over and over.

Ps just got back from 2 weeks --Italy, France, Spain etc 2 lenses and my 5 D IV and giga't ask.

It seems that most folks are intellectually lazy. I notice post frequently that could be solved by using the manuals that come with our cameras if we would just take the time. As for most equipment such things are covered and if we learn how to use the index and other search help to find the info. My wife for example will be on her pc and ask me for information instead of looking it up hear self. She says it easier to ask me. The brain is probably the most under used organ we have. If it was used instead of the tongue the world would instantly be an improved place to live.

I'd like a separate section for people asking about Abe's of Maine.

LOL! I kind of snicker when I see the topic almost daily, but not reading them is an option. It's almost as good as asking what flavor ice cream should I buy. Everyone presumably has their own areas of interest of what or how they like to photograph.

All in a days work!

I accidentally learn other things on my manual or online searches. I do help people and offer links and derive some enjoyment, but am I really helping them? It's part of the forum that people expect, so it works for me.
