Nikon D3 with a Sigma 500mm 4.5 prime lens both are over tens years old. Being new to photography I found buying used was the best bang for my buck. I purchased from MPD out of New York, got a six month warranty on both my camera and lens. This was my best option for wildlife and bird photography. I could not afford new gear hope other beginners consider used gear to begin their craft.

And the person behind the camera counts as much or more than the age of the gear!

Great tools in the proper hands can create images. Gary, you did it. Perfect capture.
I agree. Age should not be an issue unless you have GAS Gear Acquisition Syndrome and have to have the latest.

I see no problem with any of that idea. I have a number of forty year-old lenses. And one of my DSLRs has ten year-old technology (camera physically 9 years old).

A good photographer can make good images with a Kodak Brownie, a bad one can make bad ones with a Leica. Gear gives options, It can't replace talent and work.

The D3 is an "old" camera? I thought you were going to be showing film shots.

I agree. Great images. So how much on an open market, person-to person could those item be bought for?

Thanks for sharing.

Technology-wise it's probably ancient.

I still use my D3 at times still a great camera. Sometimes my D810 doesn't do what the D3 will do

Great images and the Nikon D3 is a beast of a camera. Although it has far less megapixels than other full frame cameras today, the D3 sensor's photosites are huge in comparison. Had one and loved it. Finally traded it for a D810 so that I could take video from time to time (wish I would have had the funds to have both).

Oh dear ... hadn’t anyone heard that anything older than 90 days without VR is inferior in IQ to cave drawings?

How ... uncivilized! 😎

If you don't feel the need for more megapixels, or better high ISO performance, the D3 will do just fine.

Nice Black Bird. Nothing wrong with older gear as long as it works. I have several older digital cameras, and they still work fine. I'd guess half my Canon lenses are at least 15 years old and most were purchased second hand.
