According to my Z9 Guide by Thom Hogan, the answer is Yes, you can do it. However it is possible only if you have added firmware C 2.00 to your Z9. See his guide page 880 + and page 892+. The explanation on page 892 is pretty complex and may be confusing to some--like me. I have not tried to do this.

TY for your helpful reply.

Yes. I've been reading T. Hogan's Guide. Good Point on the Firmware. I'll check the Firmware Version.

Wondering if any Z9 user has been successful at reassigning the video record button to Recall Shooting Settings (Hold). I’ve tried numerous times. It’s easy enough to change the settings and apparently save. But when I subsequently press the video record button the ‘saved’ settings are not activated.

Why don't you blame Nikon who failed to deliver a camera you wanted to buy 100 days ago? That's the failure you should be giving up on.

Does anyone else recall that Payboo was originally promoted as a way to “avoid“ sales tax?

So if you’re looking for free lunch, and the plan goes awry, the fault, if any is no one’s but your own.

From time to time people report that they dropped their cameras, causing damage to the camera or lens. Don't they use neck or wrist straps? Failing to use neck or wrist straps seems to me to be like riding in a car without wearing a seatbelt. What am I missing here?

For further insight into this matter, please google the term “Internet troll”.

PS. If your time allows, also consider raising the question of raw versus JPG files.

A lot of responses but nobody answered your questions. I have the Z7 and I love those big raw files but I shoot a lot of stuff that requires cropping, even with a long lens. Unless you’re doing heavy cropping or printing really large prints the Z6II will be more than adequate. While I agree that getting a new mirrorless will make no difference in IQ I also understand your reasoning. Yes as some have said the D850 has slightly faster AF if you’re shooting action but the eye focus on the Z cameras is a definite advantage if you’re shooting people.

I agree with your opening statement and overall opinion. The review I cited supports your conclusion. Also, the ~1K$ savings is my internal down payment on a Z9, if one ever becomes available to purchase.

And TY for one the few non-antagonist posts I’ve seen in this forum in the past week.

I have used the d700 for years and moved to a d850 as I started doing outdoor photography, panoramas, and such, and thought having the d850 would be good for that. Now I'm not so sure. I'd like to get into the Nikon Z ecosystem as I have loads of glass that will work with it. I also shoot people and would like a better focusing system to track them. I know there are better ecosystems out there as far as focusing...but, again, I am heavily invested in Nikon.

Question: Aside from the megabyte count, is there all that much difference between the Z6ii and the Z7ii?

Thank you all.

When I had a film camera it had one battery. It was easy to use the camera and easy to replace the batteries. Then, it happened. As cameras became a little more complex so did the batteries. Replacing them became time consuming and expensive. Then cameras required different types for the same model. Batteries also became rechargeable. So it was somewhat easier and affordable. Now with mirrorless cameras, these models eat more battery power requiring frequent charging. Usually, you get a single battery recharger with each camera you buy. I now have six batteries and one charger. So I purchased a Jupio dedicated duo battery charger. I can charge two batteries simultaneously. In addition, the charger doubles as a power bank for my cell phone

Are you charging Canon branded batteries with the Jupio charger or their equivalent Jupio batteries? TY.

About 5 years ago when I had a Coolpix it was terrible. I’ve had no trouble with it when connecting my Z7. I only use it to use my phone as a remote. The default for photo transfers is just a 2mp JPEG. You can set it for full size raw files but it’s very slow. If I want to transfer photos from any camera to my phone or iPad I’ll just use a card reader with a lightning or USB-C connector.

Works quite well for me (D500 and Z6ii). Great for transfers to iPad.

In your haste you probably failed to notice the OP was trying to compare two different size iPad screens. Not showing off or trolling. Be more careful what you say. At least my comment was genuine.

The OP asked for views on the M1 chip. And, yes, I’m genuinely aggravated with trolls continuing to undermine the value of this blog.

I feel uncomfortable and cramped working up raw photos on small laptop size screens. Trying to evaluate four similar photos together on the screen is like evaluating thumbnails. And then there is this "touchy feely" interface instead of an accurate mouse. No thanks, I will stick with my 27" 5K retina screen for photo work.

Showing Off? Trolling? I don’t recall screen size having anything to do with the original question.

I may start doing quick editing on my iPad; I take my trusty Sony rx100 VI on my daily walks and may pick a couple of quick shots each day. I do not use my iPad for taking photos or movies, so the differences there are not significant to me. I have the 256 gb Pro now and have a lot of room on it.

I have looked side by side at the new iPad Pro vs the Air 5 and visually, there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference to my eye - I did apples to apples comparison with photos on flickr.

The new iPad air has the new M1 chip. Will there be a significant upgrade in processing photos by moving to the new iPad?

PS I was advised via email yesterday that Capture One will be releasing its iPad software at the end of the month.

I just bought a M1 Macbook pro a couple of months ago. Got it from B&H as the local Best Buy was out of stock. What Best Buy did have was lots of memory chips. They have no problem opening the Macbook and replacing RAM chips with bigger ones, at about 1/3 to 1/2 the Apple price. When I need more RAM, I know where to go.

I got a 512 gb ssd in the computer, then went to Costco and got a 1 tb ssd for $90. With USB-C connection it is very fast. I keep programs on the computer’s drive and data or image files on the plugin drive. When I can find one I may spring for an auxiliary drive that operates with the thunderbolt 4 speed—supposedly 10 to 40 times faster data transfer times than what I have.

With the thunderbolt/usb-C connections I have a maximum of either 36 or 48 periperals connected at the same time. That is several dozen external hard drives (platter or solid state or a mix). Way more than I can afford!

In my opinion:

Warning to all. This is malicious or at least dangerous advice even if one one has advanced skills. I’ve installed RAM years ago on Windows machines that were not built to resist do-it-yourself upgrades. Apple actively thwarts DIY upgrades. Buy the largest drive and most RAM your budget allows. Any other approach is misguided.
