I have tried a few applications, but they appear to do more than I need, which tends to make the interface more complex and confusing than I would like. Something to do with age, probably.

I use a MAC with OS10.13.6

I would like to find the simplest  program that will allow me to view RAW (ORF) and JPG files at different magnifications to sort and organize them using keywords. I will be using Affinity to convert and perform PP.

If I don't appear to know what I am talking about please either ignore or ask clarifying questions.

Thanks

Ray

Thanks to all who posted. My main interest was weight reduction. My 40 year old aluminum weighs about 5 pounds and I am looking at a 62" CF that weighs less than half.

I was unaware of the vibration reduction benefit.

In the past, I was able to access Lynda training classes using my county library card at no cost.

I photographed some of the old standards on the north shore of Superior last week. After climbing down to the beach, balancing precariously on slippery rocks, and being bit by black flies I was able to eliminate approximately 8 people getting selfies who were in the frame by using a beautiful flowering bush. Great shot of Split Rock Lighthouse- Or so I thought. There was a small bare spot in the bush that I failed to see. Clone stamp to the rescue.

Is durability generally considered an issue when compared to the same tripod made from an aluminum alloy?

Thanks

I am helping a friend with their camera on a Samsung S8. I found this statement in an article:

"RAW/DNG photos shot from the Galaxy S8’s rear shooter will allow you to extract a wee bit more in terms of dynamic range and details from the phone’s sensor provided you know your way around Photoshop"

Not sure what this means. "Wee bit"- Less than what is possible from a conventional camera because the sensor is less capable?

Thanks

TIn fact a distributor would much prefer selling their entire stock to a single buyer rather than stuff around doing onesies and twosies to a multitude of different places.

Shoe manufactures are almost at this point. Small retailers are being told by the big boys (Nike) that mom and pop stores must place a $20,000 minimum order or they can't play.

I bought a Petri FT SLR and extra lenses while in the Navy on a Med Cruise with Marines in 1970. It somehow got small holes in the primary shutter curtain so I ended up making a deal for another just like it. I still have that second one plus the extra lenses. I have used it only a couple times in the past ten years or so, but it still functions perfectly and I'm hanging on to it. Maybe I'll pass it, and my Pentax K1000SE, on to my grandsons if they develop an interest in photography.

I am am still amazed at the quality of images in a old photo album that were made with my Petri FT in the 70s. You are smart to have held on to it. I worked at a camera store when I got back from Korea and felt that newer cameras must be better- not always.

This is a pretty wise and standard approach. I did a similar thing in a professional portrait lab, setting up monitors for color correction of incoming customer files.

The area was carpeted "gray card gray."

The walls were painted Munsell N-8.

Table tops were medium gray plastic.

Computer monitor desktops were set to a medium dark gray. Screensavers were left off, because we wanted monitors stable all day.

The drop ceiling was high enough not to influence peripheral vision.

The area was lit very dimly with 5000K GE Chroma 50 fluorescent tubes in fixtures bounced upwards, for an indirect, diffused light.

Monitors were equipped with blinders.

Operators wore gray smocks.

Operators were color tested with the Munsell Color Test — The $750 tile test, not the freebie at https://www.xrite.com/hue-test (which you should try, anyway!).

We calibrated a master monitor. Then we calibrated all the other monitors to the same aims. We did this weekly during our busy months.

That's pretty anal-retentive stuff, right? Well, we were buying Kodak paper by the tractor trailer load, so NOT paying attention to that stuff led to expensive remakes. We processed millions school portrait packages every Fall, so every minute of labor counted against both the bottom line and on-time delivery.

A $160 to $200 calibration kit will do wonders for your entire workflow. If you can't trust your monitor, you can't trust that your printer or lab will deliver what you expect.

NO monitor stays accurate over time. I calibrate monthly, at a minimum, and before every large batch of color correction tasks (whether for video or stills).
This is a pretty wise and standard approach. I did... (show quote)

Gray smocks made me smile. I worked at a "color separation" house in Minneapolis that had purchased the first SCITEX digital equipment in the city (millions $). We had over 6 weeks of training- 10 hours a day.
We were issued baby blue smocks.

[quote=amfoto1]I always was pretty happy with Tri-X or HP5, when I had a dark room set up to soup it myself and make enlargements.

I always shot Tri-X at my tested speed of 200 and processed in HC110. Any "grain" that was present was smooth.

Anyone using this printer with High Sierra OS 10.13.6?
BH site doesn't list it as an option.
Thanks
