Do you guys remember when we were learning all we could about Photoshop, beginning perhaps about 2004, or sooner? Well, that, I think, is where we all are at the moment relative to Affinity Photo.

Let's share!!! I'll start. I purchased the Affinity Photo Work Book, the Essential Affinity Photo, and also The Affinity Bible, and Affinity Bible. I also bought the Affinity Photo Users Guid, but that was only because it had a pug on the cover. Except for the Affinity Photo Work, which I purchased as a hard cover book, all the rest I have purchased via my Kindle from Amazon.

Now, the Affinity Photo Work Book is, beyond a doubt, the best "starter book" I could imagine. And I've learned so much from it. But (ready for this?), the more I learned from that hard cover book, to more I found I have yet TO learn. The above mentioned Kindle books offer "beginner" stuff.

Back in my Photoshop days, I bought and enjoyed the Photoshop Bible. It must have 400+ pages, and very detailed. I still have that book on my shelf. I could always return to it for a detailed question, and found good explanations in that book. The two "Affinity Bible"s I mentioned above are not that, not by a long shot. I welcome -someone- to put together a full detailed Affinity Bible. But that hasn't happened yet.

So I'm proposing here that we all collect our "research" and share what resources you have found, and I'm not wanting to include Youtube, or even the Affinity Forums. Those are trouble shooting forms. I'm talking about organized documents/books rather similar to ... a text book. You guys game?

I just recent purchased three Affinity courses on Udemy while they were on sale. I paid about $35 for the three and I am finding them very comprehensive. I agree that the Affinity Workbook is a great resource. It is easy to follow and you have access to the practice files so you can duplicate the lessons on your own.

Cwilson, you are so right. Actually I purchased two or three courses, also from Udemy. I found the first to be extremely informative...but moving sooo fast. I will return, but start, then stop, then pause, then back up. It just didn't work will for me. That's is why I'm on a quest to put my hands on hardcopy tutorials.

Thanks Jerry, I'm hoping other new Affinity users click on your link. It is an excellent book, I've studied it cover to cover. Should you see other books, especially if different than the ones I listed earlier, please share. You are so good and researching and sharing.

I bought the book and I almost immediately returned it because the videos in You Tube were for me more useful. I use the software to edit many of my images but there are many tricks to learn. I am right now in the basics.
I hope there will be plenty of research on this to make available plenty of information for Affinity Photo users.

Get Luminar, watch 5 or 6 tutorials on line that are free, start using it and spend far less time on your computer with very good results.
I feel I have more time now to seek new photographing opportunities.

Do you guys remember when we were learning all we ... (show quote)

As an Affinity owner and learner, I cannot share your enthusiasm for the Affinity Photo Workbook as the "best starter book". I bought it with high hopes but have temporarily put it aside in favor of the Udemy course "Affinity Photo: Solid Foundations".

I'm sure the workbook will be a valuable resource once I get farther along in my learning, but as a beginner's resource it falls short. It assumes you already have some basic knowledge of photo editing. This may not be a problem for someone familiar with Lightroom/Photoshop, but it can be a real hurdle for someone starting from scratch.

An example might help in conveying my criticism of the workbook. Page 108 provides instructions and an exercise for creating a "flood selection". Step 5 has you choose New Adjustment Layer > Levels Adjustment. But the concept of Layers isn't covered until later on in the book! I have trouble learning that way....

Pity you restricted your call for available resources to books and documents. I'm guessing that that list is short for Affinity....

Wow, thanks for this! I'm one of those people who would rather read than watch a video.

I recently switched to Affinity Photo from Adobe and have found Simon Foster’s course on Udemy entitled “Master Affinity Photo - the tools, the techniques and the methods!” very helpful.

His course is broken down into two sections: The Workflow Section & The Reference Section.

He does not waste a lot of time talking about the superfluous, rather each lesson gets right to the point. The reference section is kind of a dictionary of the tools and how to use them.

I found the course to be a great starting point for me.

I'm with you Crich, Simon Foster's course on Udemy is excellent, and it moves so fast. Mine you, I'm a classroom teacher too, so I usually catch onto things pretty quickly. But I needed to rewatch his a second or a third time to be able to hang onto all the great tips.

I'm still hoping for an extremely detailed Affinity Bible like my Photoshop Bible.
