You must be a Canon owner, but I am sorry I offended you.

Among other camera makes, I do own a Canon. However, I’m not even slightly offended. I have more important things in my life.

I just think your comment wasn’t helpful to either the original poster or anyone else.

But as you can see it is a Canon owner, what else would you expect.

That’s hardly a helpful comment.

Victoria Bampton's book... https://www.lightroomqueen.com/

I’d agree with this. The Lightroom Queen makes complete sense of the whole thing. Book is available either as hardcopy or an ebook with updates.

Well recommended.

When I was studying photography at university our tutor always and continually stressed us to put the camera on a tripod. It was the only way to avoid camera shake.

Yes modern camera and lens systems have stabilization features which are very useful. However we’ve all be shown how to brace ourselves to hand hold.

Using the flip out screen as a viewfinder will ALWAYS result in some shake because you’re putting the camera on the end of two wobbly sticks - your arms.

The only sure way is to use a tripod, and failing that practice the braced methods described in every ‘how to’ book. Using the flip out screen is an open invitation to camera shake.

At the risk of upsetting the conventional ‘big powerful computer’ argument, you can process RAW files on an iPad using Lightroom mobile, Affinity Photos and even Apple Photos. You can upload to cloud storage too.

I think the best advice at this stage is to get some training or join a club.

I don’t know about Edson as I’ve used Canon printers and scanners for ages. Others can confirm or deny but I think all the printer folks make money out of selling ink and new kit, rather than keeping old units going.

My printer is still going, but my scanner has issues. I use an old driver but it is loosing some utility. I now only use it for scanning slides and have to switch it off and on after each scan! When I need to scan documents I use my iPhone as it’s faster and more accurate.

I have to confess that my printer gets less and less use in this digital world.

To be honest, I think this is probably a Canon issue. Canon appear to be very slow to update their drivers. Indeed, they often never issue updates once they have released a new version of the printer. This has applied to printers and scanners in the past rendering older models useless unless you can find a suitable generic driver.

You should always update your Operating System as it brings many benefits in performance and security. It’s not as if High Sierra is new. It’s been out for a few months and was announced much earlier in the year. Developers have had the chance to work with beta versions over the ensuing months.

I regret I think it’s more likely that Canon would prefer you to buy a new printer, than any failing at Apple!

There’s no suggested ban currently on cameras and laptops in cabins. The suggestion is that in checked baggage there is a problem and the scientific community have pointing it out for a while. However the majority of people here say they would never check their cameras, so what’s the problem?
Cargo flights could be an issue as a number have had incidents with batteries.

When I received the first notifications about the changes, I thought that people here would go into meltdown and I wasn’t wrong!

I allowed about 24 hours to pass before I upgrade my desktop LR to Classic LRCC just to make sure there were no rumors of problems. So I went ahead and it worked perfectly. It’s the same as the ‘old’ desktop product, but faster. There are a few new goodies, but I haven’t played with them yet. I’m running High Sierra on an iMac.

The ‘new’ LRCC is, Yes, very like the iPad version of LR Mobile. It’s ideal for those people who don’t understand or don’t want the complexities of the traditional desktop version (which you have to admit takes some learning). I’ve loaded that too and find it intuitive and easy. Yes, it’s lacking many of the abilities of the traditional or ‘folder based’ version, but then this is only version one. You can instruct it to download full copies of your images to your hard drive if you want. It’s more in keeping with what the majority of leisure photographers want these days, and non the worse for that.

I’m sure that Adobe recognizes the amount of grinding and gnashing of teeth that will happen with these changes, but I think they’ve done the right thing. They seem like sensible and well thought out developments.

However, you can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time!

I was wondering when this would explode here. Announced ages ago. No problem for anyone and a step in the right direction.

Not using your iPhone to take photos? You’re missing out. It’s another (very good) tool in your arsenal. But each to his or her own.

Much ado about little...

HEIF and HEVC will be seamlessly exported. Apple won't leave you in the lurch.

They're just doing what they do best, nudging the entire market in a much better direction. Anyone remember floppy disks? Serial ports? Parallel ports? Phones with keyboards?...
