The site will automatically resize any photos you attach to your messages. You'll have the option to link to the original so that others can download the high res version, if you like.

But remember, you can't edit your messages after 20 minutes or so, so if you post a pic here, it's here FOREVER.

The best option is to host your pictures on another site, and post a link in your messages. Then you can take them off the other site to disable the link anytime you choose.

WOW!!! That pier was about 2 miles away???? I am like 90% ready to buy the SX40 but wanted a little more assurnace in getting a good camera. I love my XTi but after 5 years with it, it's time to move on. I think with your help in showing me something that was about 2 miles away puts me over the edge in getting one. I just needed that distant shot. Thank you very much donrent.

Just inform you... SX50 will come in Sept or Oct.

But probably won't be available until November 1st.

If you're not in a hurry, OP, it would be a good idea to wait. The price on the SX40 will drop considerably after the SX50 is announced. Or you might just decide you want the SX50 instead.

Another one to consider. Lumix FX200 w/LEICA 25-600mm lens, what is amazing is that it is a constant f2.8 lens. Imagine 600mm @ f.28. WOW. Price is $600. Only drawback.

Another drawback is that this camera is extremely difficult to find. I googled it, and there's almost nothing on it.

Thanks. I'm trying to make up my mind between the two. It will be used as THE camera for week in England and a week in France . I really don't want to carry a DSLR and lenses around.

Don't blame you a bit. You may want to look into CHDK, if you want RAW capability on your trip.

I've owned both, and the major difference is image quality. The SX30 is a very good camera, but the SX40 is waaaay better.

The SX40 is more expensive, and worth every penny.

Here's one I took in Galveston Bay last month. It was very hot and very humid, which really shows up in the long zoomed photos. This ship was a good 1/2 mile away, maybe more.

I think you'll love the SX40 - I sure do. :

Hi, I just bought this camera a week ago. Usually use Nikon D7000, but wanted a bridge camera.
Problem #1 WHen I was trying to photograph butterflies, when I zoomed all the way, the camera wouldn't focus and gave me an orange square warning with an exclamation.
Problem #2: Set it up on auto for a family member to use, all her pictures came out blurred. Cannot figure what happened.

Any ideas, or suggestions as to how I go about to figure out what happened?
Thank you!

How close to the butterflies were you? The camera won't focus on close objects if you zoom all the way out.

Always use the half-press to lock focus. Using the sports mode is best for objects on the move.

I'd be thrilled to bits with a mere APS-C sensor in a bridge cam. :)

I believe the Sony NEX cameras are APS-C.

But they don't offer anything like the zoom range of the SX40.

Here's some more info about CHDK

I've used CHDK in four different cameras, now. Never had a problem with it.

I have the SX40, and I use the LCD almost exclusively. I have balance problems, so holding a camera in front of my face without something to lean on is not an option.

The LCD could be better, but it's not a problem.

The fact that it's moveable is a bonus - especially when attached to the tripod. I'm taller than the tripod, so it's great to be able to turn the screen where I can see it at normal posture.

I dragged myself out of bed this morning new. Enjoyed the show, but all I have to show for it is some rather boring photos of stars and the Milky Way. Caught a couple of short, dim meteors, but nothing worth printing.

How about military cuts how about not doing the bush tax cuts

How about not wasting money on companies like Solyndra and giving money to car companies that compete with domestic car producers?

How about the money that GM took in their bailout? Since most of that was in grants, they don't have to pay it back. That's the ONLY reason GM can claim that they paid back every penny that was loaned to the company by the government. And then there's millions of dollars in stock losses since the bailout.

There's plenty of waste on both sides. But only one party wants to raise taxes to pay for that waste. And YOU're voting for it.

I'm pretty impressed with the image stabilization. I hand held a full zoom shot the other day at 1/125. It was windy and had nothing to lean on. Was in av and didn't realize the shutter was that low until later.

I'm impressed, too. The only time I bother with a tripod is if I know I'll be sitting behind it for a substantial amount of time. If I'm on the move, I don't miss it at all!
