Here is a Perseid meteor that I took just a few hours ago. Photo taken at 2:36 AM. This photo has had no re-touching done to it. I have to contend with the glare from Atlanta so my sky is sort of washed out.
Perseid Meteor
Another Perseid this one taken at 3:03 AM.
Perseid Meteor
I sat out in the garden for about 90 minutes last night from 2300z (BST) and only saw 3 Persids, 1 ISS and 2 planes! Gave up at that point as I had work this morning!!
I missed it, cloud cover all weekend, bummer. But I got one a couple of weeks ago.

its a tough choice sometimes i have to force myself to get up and go, we drove out to a fairly desolate area stayed most of the night , perfect conditions untill moonrise.
Dont get me wrong you have taken a good photo there but i would only get up for something more substantial as there would be more chance of cloud than a clear sky.
Outstanding!!! I wish I had your dark secluded skies. I use to live in New Mexico (Raton) and sure do miss those pristine skies.

I was considering getting back up to watch it (and experiment with pics) but after doing a split double shift with my part time job (10-2 and 4:30-9) than dinner and winding down, I didn't get to bed until almost midnight and I had to get up at 6:30 to do something at church before the service started, decided I need the sleep more than I needed pics. I'm sure there will be plenty of other meteor showers to shoot.

I went down to the town park at 3:30 this morning (the previous night was supposed to be covered with clouds). I was there for over an hour. I saw two, maybe three meteors, one very bright. The last one was just a flash out of the corner of my eye. Unfortunately, the camera missed everything. I set it up to take a serious of 30-second exposure every minute. I have 34 shots, no meteors. The park is open, so I could get plenty of sky, but I didn't realize how many lights they left on - the pool, play area, the driveway, the parking lot. I shot from a hill behind the baseball diamond.

There are basically three meteor showers that are dependable and with a good rate. They are the Quadrantids during the first few days in January, the Perseids in August and the Geminids which will occur Dec. 13, 2012. The Quadrantids are brief and if you are on the wrong side of the planet when it hits you'll most likely miss it, The Perseids this year occurred during a waning moon and was a good shower. The Geminids will be our last chance at a decent shower with no moon to interfere with. Also the Geminids are a tad slower at 35 km per second as opposed to the Perseids at 75 km per second which should provide some interesting photos.
