Nest gimbal is not much good in cold weather, it gets too stiff.

I had my Nest gimbal out a couple of times this winter. I didn't do any crazy arctic sub zero tests or anything, but it worked great in 10 to 15 degree weather using my heavy 500mm f/4 with a TC 1.7 on my D610. I even had to have the dampers tightened a little for smooth, controlled action. The cold did slow it down some, but I still had plenty of free adjustment left that I still needed to tighten it for my needs.

Wow! How discouraging to hear some of the comments; I guess there are two wide and different schools of thought, but that does not help me. It is now a toss up between a refurbished D810 @ $2,249 and a brand new D750 @ $1,996; but, how about the issues with the D750? Man, this is really difficult..

Thanks for all the comments.

Don't forget about the D610, a refurb is listed with the 10% off making it very affordable now.

Here is a recent link on UHH with many satisfied D610 owners.

I have not owned the D750 but it sounds like an excellent camera with many happy owners here on UHH. I can vouch for the D610 and the D810 bought as refurbs, not a single complaint with either of them. Well, the NEF files on my D810 are pretty big and take more time to process, I guess that is the only thing so far that has been an annoyance. Guess I need a better computer now...

I got my D610, D7100 and D810 as refurbs with the 10% off. All had very low shutter counts and were perfect in every way. The only camera I bought new was my D3200 2 lens kit, I ordered it from Walmart and Cameta filled the order as the Walmart vendor. That was before I found UHH and learned about refurbs. I had to wait about 4 months when I decided to get the D810 because they didn't have them in stock as a refurb for a long time with the 10% off. The highest shutter count of the used ones I got was just over 200 clicks. The camera I have used the most is the D610, over 14,000 clicks on my refurb D610 now and it is still going strong.

My girlfriend has an Iphone6s. I thought she would love using my D7100, and she does.. sort of. I think she has taken about 200 pictures with it, maybe. But she does use it for video, it usually stays mounted to the cheap tripod I gave her and she will even ask me to turn on the 'video camera' to record events at her house. I have seen so many of these videos with her in them taking pictures with her Iphone. ;-) On the plus side, I have gotten good at editing her videos and uploading them for her.

It doesn't appear that the TC did any damage to IQ although none of the images look sharp on my monitor.

Must be the affects of diffraction since the 35-70 2.8 is a very good lens. I wish I still had mine.

I have a 24-70 2.8 and the 35-70 2.8. It's been a long time since I used the 24-70, just too big and heavy. I do worry about the focus breathing with the 35-70 but have never noticed a dust problem yet that is excessive. My 35-70 is just as sharp. I need to sell the other lens, but I have a habit of just holding on to things. ;-) I have never tried my extenders on any of my zooms, just use them with my longer primes. Not sure if they will even mount safely.

Well, I turned her on, looked her over real good, took some notes, had a puff of my nicotene... Best I can figure, it's 1972. ;-)

Flash photography is fun, creative and addictive. You can use your D7100's built in flash to trigger your 910 off of your camera for added effects. Here is a web site that will help you learn, it really taught me a lot.

I purchased my D610 and my D810 as refurbished cameras at separate times when they had the 10% off deal. Both came with low shutter counts and were in perfect condition. I have never had any issues with my D610 and have about 14,000 actuations on it now. I paid about $1050 for my refurb D610 a year ago with the 10% off. I had heard about the D600 issues with the oil spots but my D610 has been flawless. This has been an excellent camera with a very affordable entry price into the full frame Nikon line up.

I have a D610, it was my first FF dslr and I love it. I bought a refurb D810 (with the 10% off from Nikon) and my D610 is used less and less. Still trying to figure out all of the controls on my D810, waiting on my guide book to arrive to help. There is a HUGE difference in the D610 24mp sensor and the D810 36mp sensor. Plus there is more lag time on my computer to process the much larger image files, something to keep in mind.

My D610 is set to capture RAW and JPEG and I use both. I use the JPEGs when I take 50 pictures of the grandkids and family and then upload them onto Facebook. My computer can adjust the JPEGs quickly in Photoscape and then shrink them in size quickly for Facebook posts. When someone wants a heavily cropped blow up from one of the pics, (like wanting just the baby's face in a group shot) I go to the RAW version and process it for better results.
When I am trying to create something to be printed, I use the RAW files to get the best results in editing. The JPEGs for Facebook take about a minute or two, but the RAW editing can take a LOT of time for me to get it just right.
My camera gives me both of these tools to use for different situations and it gives me the flexibility to use the one I want to either save time with the snapshots or create something I am proud of to hang on my wall or give as a gift. I guess we all need to find out what works in our own specific situations. I use both formats and am glad to have a choice.
