Back in 2009, Michael Reichmann did a review of the Leica S2, and he said this, "I once read a review of a new Mercedes in a car magazine which described it as having been 'carved from a solid block of unobtainium.' That’s how the S2 feels to me. I don’t think that I’ve ever described a camera assensuous, but with the S2 I’m tempted to. Though it’s a large camera, it feels 'right' in ones hands. Every photographer that I handed the S2 had the same reaction – an instant smile."

That is one gorgeous piece of unubtainium! What's wrong with us? When I was a younger man lust looked a bit different. But that Leica has sexy lines indeed!

Giving credit to those whom are worthy is a noble thing. I have had similar positive experiences with Adorama. Seems there are but a handful of reputable retailers out there. Adorama helps to restore my faith. I've also had good experiences with Cameta and B&H.....and MT Shooter too!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for that woot link.

Just be careful, as you would be anywhere else. The Woot site often has great bargains, but also has its share of "dogs" too. You will see lots of "reconditioned" and "refurbished" merchandise here. Try to buy the new stuff if possible. The refurbs often come with very limited warranties.

Three weeks ago they loads of new Vanguard tripods and monopods for sale. I bought a nice carbon fiber monopod and two heads.

Costco still sells the Dolica brand and it's a bargain from what I've seen.

You can also look at www.woot.com That site is owned by Amazon and is their discount marketing site. I've found incredible bargains there. They sell Vanguard tripods from time to time. You've got to check there daily and might get lucky.

Good luck!

I haven't downloaded LR6 yet, but it probably does require a bit more processing power. Have you deleted LR5 from your system? If both versions are on the computer that would slow things down. These days another form of processing you can possibly add to your system is a "solid state drive (SSD)". If you end up needing help I have a terrific IT person. Feel free to PM me anytime.

How is the fresh air in the Catskills? Miss it there. Used to spend time up around Roxbury Run and Margaretville. Fresh spring water right from the pipe sticking out of the mountain. Any photos of that?

Take care.....

Truly amazing. I like the composition too. Incredible to think that these images are literally 100 years old. Puts you into a time machine.

How do you find such interesting stuff? Nice!

Thank you.

I just got the 35mm f1.8 lens and it's a revelation! Highly recommend it.

You can buy a nice monopod for about $100, which might be just enough to cover your needs along with your present ailing tripod.

That would add up to just about $300 and a very Happy Father's Day!

You can try looking at Woot website (owned by Amazon). Right now selling new Vanguard tripods, some carbon fiber and various heads. Most are models set to be discontinued, but are still brand new with warranty. Oddly, these are found in the electronics category on the site.

I just bought a nice carbon fiber monopod and two heads for about $150. This website sells lots of other photo gear from time to time. Worth looking.

Good luck!

I own the D5300 and really love the light weight and easy to handle size. However, in your case, the D7100 might be the wiser choice.

The D5300 requires lots of input to make basic adjustments when shooting in manual. The D7100 has the extra wheels to allow instant adjustments.

Others here have pointed out that the D7100 also has the focus motor, which could really be helpful if you have lenses that need it. You have a professional background and would surely prefer the features on the D7100 or any full frame.

You seem quite concerned about size. If this remains your overriding motivation and you don't mind fidgeting a little while shooting, then I can say the D5300 will give you wonderful image quality that is on par with the D7100. I will soon step up to a full frame and intend to keep my D5300 as a very capable backup.

Best of luck.

I got my Canon Pixma Pro-100 from Adorama several months ago with a box of Canon 13 x 19 photo paper for $400 with a $300 rebate. I've heard this kind of offer is made on a somewhat regular basis. You might want to check and see. It seems Canon is willing to give these beasts away almost for free just to sell their ink in the future. Best of luck.

I would use the Spectraview II and buy may be the Ione Pro sensor. The ColorMunki is good but some version of it isn't compatible with Spectraview. The Spyder4 works with your model of monitor but doesn't work well with some other model of monitors from NEC. I am currently using the old Spyder2 with 2 old NEC LCD2190UXp monitors.

Thanks for your advice. If you need an architectural question answered I'm your man!

The Spectraview II does hardware calibration rather than software calibration and it's better. I makes adjustment to the monitor and not the color profile. You do have to buy one of the probe either NEC owned probe or either the ColorMunki or Spyder4 would work. Since it has to make adjustment to the monitor it only works with NEC monitors. However, since you will have to get the probe and if you use another brand monitor you can use the software that came with the probe.

Wow! Thank you. Great info! May I ask.....if it were your decision, which system would you invest into? Assume the NEC monitor will be used almost exclusively for the next two years. Thank you

Don't know much about Spectraview II, but it claims to be useable with non-NEC monitors as well. If they are throwing it in for free with your monitor, I would go with it.

The ad said "Free, except for weekends and weekdays!" I wish....
