I am thinking of getting this printer. Some of you must have it, and if so please let me know if it is worth getting it. Or should I get the Pro 10 instead. This will be my first printer. Or should I not bother at all and just send my photos to a lab?

It's a quality printer for up to 13"X19". Look for available deals to reduce the purchase price.

It depends how much you will be printing. Do your math. It is a very good printer.

Those two are the same size, shape, appearance and weight. They operate about the same. Cost per print is about the same.

The difference is the ink. One uses dye inks and the other uses pigment inks. One has more ink tanks than the other.

I have a friend with a Pro-10 and I have a Pro-100. He has more money than I do too! Prints from both are excellent. My friend thinks his are a little better when he prints B&W.

For print quality, you won't see a difference until you put identical images side by side and study them, including using a magnifying glass.

I too have the pro 100, the print quality is excellent but a refill of the cartridges is just north of $120.00.
I paid $400.00 with a $300.00 rebate through B&H just over a year ago.
Overall I'm happy, but as already mentioned, do the math to see if your value works.
I wish I could tell you how many prints I get on a set of cartridges but I don't really know, I'd guess fifty or sixty 8" x 10"s, but that is kinda out of thin air.

I've found only one reasonable source for ink jet printing cost information. It is a paper supply company. Their perceived competition is custom print houses. To sell their paper, they wanted their customers to know ink and paper costs from printer to printer. They bought printers, printed a few hundred prints each and counted cartridges.

After reading the details, I decided that I could make my own "quality" prints for about the same, or even less, than buying "premium" grade prints from places like Bay Photo or Costco. If you pick at details, you have to factor in everything, including fuel to go get your prints!

To prevent piling up unused cartridges, I buy them one at a time, as needed by color. Amazon is very convenient for that. The Canon Pro printers have a useful system of reporting tank levels and a "low" ink warning by tank. A button push or two on my computer directs Amazon to get me a replacement cartridge quick enough that I've not missed a single printing opportunity.

If I were a more frequent printer I would "stock" one complete set and then replace them one at time as I used them.

I own and use a Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer, purchased when a large rebate was offered from Canon. I have print several 13x19-inch prints, and just ordered my first replacement set of eight (8) cartridges from Staples ($109). Based on average ink consumption, cost of a 13x19-inch print is approximately $1.00/sheet + $2.90/ink. The greys and black cartridges drain faster than the color cartridges. Based on list price of $17/Canon cartridge, the ink actually costs $5,000/gallon!

I do not have this printer, but I have it's predecessor the Pro 9000 II.

It is a monster in terms of size, and as others have said, not a cheap machine to run, but the results are excellent.

If you can find a new one at a good discount - which you should be able to including ink and paper etc.- it should serve you well, if not inexpensively in terms of replacement supplies. Amazon can be a reliable and fairly priced source.

I have the Pro 9000 MKII also. I buy Red River paper, satin, And the cost per print is under $1 for paper and $2.47 for ink for an 13x19. I've had HP, Epson and Canon printer's. For me Canon is the only way to go. Just depends on how much your able/willing to spend on a printer. If I were buying one now, I believe I'd go with the Pro 100. I doubt the Pro 10 or the Pro 1 will give me print's that I can actually see the difference in. The pigment ink is said to give longer print life, not sure how they get that. At one time Canon and Epson were claiming 100+ year print life when properly care for. If you print on mat paper, you'll use more ink I understand but I think the bad thing about mat paper is you have to clean the roller's regularly or they will slip trying to pick up the paper, read about it on Red River Paper site.

I just got a Pro-100 from B&H which was bundled with a Canon 5DIII DSLR and also included a $250 rebate plus a 50 pack of 13X19 premium photo paper. In my mind I got the printer for free. As far as the printer is concerned, it is a beast weighing in at 45 pounds. Although I'm not a big printer, I have been impressed by the print quality versus my old Epson 1280. Hopefully I won't run into the dry ink problems that I have experienced from a lack of use.

Mine sometimes sits for 2-3 months without use and cranks right up with no issues but the use of a bit of ink to recharge the nozzles.

That's good to know. In the past I have used Costco but the results I'm getting from the Canon are impressive.
