Mark:
I have used Picasa for years and continue to do so for quick and dirty photo sharing.
Many on UHH have asked questions about Picasa, and your clear and accurate explanation should be very helpful to them.

Alan,
Picasa does not store photos. All photos are stored on your computer. Picasa is able to view them.
This is from Picasa information:
The Picasa software provides a simple way to view, edit, and organize the photos on your computer. As you get started, there are two things you should always remember:
Picasa does not store the photos on your computer.
When you open Picasa, it simply looks at the folders on your computer and displays the photos it finds. It displays the file types that you tell it to find, in the folders that you tell it to search.
Your original photos are always preserved.
When using editing tools in Picasa, your original files are never touched. The photo edits you make are only viewable in Picasa until you decide to save your changes. Even then, Picasa creates a new version of the photo with your edits applied, leaving the original file totally preserved.

Hope this helps to clarify.

I have a Canon T3i. On a recent trip to France and Ireland a Canon 18-135 STM and a 12-28 Tokina f/4 covered my needs nicely. Much as I would have liked to have my tripod, I did not wish to carry it. Sure wish I had taken the monopod I picked up after returning home.

Yup, you lose two stops, but depending on what you're shooting it may or may not be a big deal. Just use it when you need it, keep it off when you don't.

We are planning a family vacation to Pigeon Forge, TN. I have a Canon T3i and the 18-55mm that came with it. I plan to purchase the Canon EF-S 55-250mm F/4-5.6 IS STM before we go. My question is, will this be adequate to get some quality close-ups with family and take in the scenery with detail?

Jackeray: I also have the T3i with the 18-55mm kit lens. First additional lens I acquired was the 55-250, but I have not used it nearly as much as I anticipated. In advance of a trip to France and Ireland a couple of years ago I picked up the Canon 18-135mm STM and the 50mm f1.8. Both of these get a lot of use. The 18-135 is great for travel, especially when it is awkward or inconvenient to change lenses in the field. The kit lens has not been used since I got the 18-135. In advance of another trip to Europe this May I picked up a 12-28mm f4.0 Tokina that is just great. Took just two lenses on the trip. You can probably guess which ones.

I did not wish to be burdened with my tripod on the trip so I did without. Shortly after I returned I picked up a monopod that would have been great great to have.

Konica Autoreflex T.
Picked up in 1969.
It served me well for 30 years until we went digital.

so what if its grey market. Its the same lens. How many times did not need warranty service on a lens.

And if you check my past posts - I have stated the way to get service is buy this lens. Then buy the same lens from Adorama. Then return the lens from Adorama. Now you have a receipt for the lens from an American dealer.

No - you are not screwing Adorama. You are not screwing anybody. You are simply forcing Canon to provide a warranty - which they should do anyway - but they are ripping you off with their warranty policies !
YOu re not really screwing Canon - but they will think that ! hahaha

Where is your integrity man?
Some people sell out pretty cheap.
I guess you're one of them.

Abe's has earned a really bad reputation. You are much better off dealing with proven reputable dealers such as B&H and Adorama.

I purchased a T3i with the 18-55 kit lens and a Canon 55-250. In advance of a trip to Europe I purchased the Canon 18-135 STM primarily to minimize lens change on the move. The build quality of the kit lens is chintzy and the 3:1 zoom range is limiting and inconvenient. The kit lens has not been used since.
My advice is to skip the 18-55 and upgrade at the time of camera purchase for better build quality and greater zoom range.
A 50mm f/1.8 prime was a great addition for me also.
In advance of a trip to France and Ireland last month I picked up a 12-28mm f/4 Tokina and I love it.
