Wrong - it’s understated! Not saying it’s a bad thing; but “photography” is becoming “computography.”

I guess that depends on who you are. You may use a computer - I use my cameras.

I have 10 cameras dating back to 1978. The first two were film cameras that haven’t been used since 1985. The other eight are Nikon DSLRs, some going back 25 years. All are in excellent working order and are all used on a regular basis.

I trashed a few film cameras I had kept for sentimental reasons, and sold the Canon film camera I’m no longer using, so now I’m down to four Pentax cameras that share lenses, that all work, and three of them I use regularly.

The fact is Pentax is currently way behind.

It depends on what the goal is.

I also would send slides to Kodak - great results. Wish I had bought the coolscan that did 2 x 2. Also wish I had your skills. I still am scanning slides!

I did purchase a Coolscan - a “LS-2000” - but after multiple ‘spa’ days for CLA, I’ve retired it, and now if I expose film, I scan it with the Plustek 8100 I got.

How about two main categories:
1) camera-based photographs, and
2) computer-based photographs.
I’ll bet the first category will have very few postings and the second will have almost all the postings.

I think the influence of computers is seriously overstated as of now.

True, I think the confusion comes from the fact that both Nikon and Canon shifted from lens stabilisation to sensor stabilisation when they moved from DSLR to mirrorless.

Pentax led Canon and Nikon!!

The important advantages to the removal of the mirror include not only the IBIS stabilization

IBIS Stabilization is NOT an advantage of ‘removing the mirror’.

Pentax DSLRs have had IBIS Stabilization for at least ten years.

We are in Ft Worth on the beginning of our two month Southwest photo tour and wanted to know what locations are best for night photography. Obviously the Stockyards(was planning on a 4 AM shoot there to avoid the people), the Tarrant County courthouse at the blue hour, and the Seventh Street bridge to name a few. For those of you who have captured various locations here, do you have any vantage points that you prefer? What have I missed?

AND most importantly, who has the BEST BBQ in town?!

TIA

I wouldn’t completely ‘avoid the people’; they can be part of the scene.

OTOH Pentax avoided offering a converter by simply keeping the legacy SLR K-mount and flange depth when they introduced their EVF ... and that only showed that the converter approach is always a success while retaining the legacy mount is a lead balloon.

It’s not a matter of good or bad enginneering. It’s a matter of reading the tea leaves. (And now Pentax sees a new film camera in their tea leaves ?!?) A K-mount EVF seems like a great idea but the arc of the universe favors new mounts plus converters. Que sera sera

Ricoh refuses to devote the resources needed to develop a new series of lenses - certainly not with a goldmine of older lenses.

Their strength remains DSLR, so a return to film is natural - a place where MILC would {at best} be at a disadvantage. They have had a series of talks where artists talk about their continued use of film. The fact that these other companies have left film behind is a problem for these other companies - in this case a majority does not mean correct.

Then they must not have great value to you. I find it curious that you would spend thousands (?) of dollars on equipment and decades of time both learning the craft and creating images and not caring enough about what all that $ and effort produces - your data. it’s your data and your personal choice, but not a good universal recommendation for everyone else.

I’m in my mid-70’s now. In a relatively short time, they will belong to my daughters anyway. I’ve never spent that money with the intention of clutching it to the grave.

Probably the "default" category when they hit Create New Topic, and many neglect to change it to the appropriate category.
I'll bet many don't even realize it can be changed, they don't "read", they just post.

I’ve complained several times when a photo is posted here instead of in the “Gallery”. Usual response is “it was an accident”.

This year, Advent began a week after ‘Black Friday’ ……. and I forgot to buy a tree! {so I cannot show it} My wife’s reaction was to say “You have one more chance to do it right”. Our daughter has just purchased a house, with the intention of building an in-laws apartment in the basement, and then our moving in there in about eighteen months.

I’ve boxes of slides from 2 generations I need to organize. It’s a daunting task. I’m seeking recommendations for my best option to view and digitize the lot. I do not have a viewer. I’m not well versed in equipment I will need nor brands to purchase. I’m hoping others before me might offer useful suggestions to consider.
Bill

I have a Plustek scanner. I scanned the slides I’m keeping, then am keeping the scanner because I intend to photograph for years to come with more film.
