Many u-tubers have been posing this theme lately ......but none talk about the possible replacement for the Sony RX10 - especially as it relates to wildlife/bird shooters ! - They think everyone wants to continue to drag around 600-800mm lenses !

Every one complains about size weight of lenses in this genere - they also complain that the one inch sensor is maybe not good enough.

So my wish for 2024 is a M4/3 based dedicated lens camera a-la RX10. This camera would have a 14-300mm f3.5-4.8 Zeiss zoom lens ( 28-600mm equiv. ) taking a 77mm filter at most and an in camera pixel enlargement option similar to Clear Image Zoom. I am thinking $2200 as a price point. Short of making the whole camera/lens together, it would be nice if someone ( Zeiss) would just make the 14-300 lens in an M4/3 mount for maybe $1700.

What are your thoughts/hopes for the new 2024 year ??

Your suggestion sounds like a good idea except that I would like more at the wide end - preferably down to a 20mm equivalent field of view. I would also like to see a genuinely compact camera using an m4/3 sensor and a built-in lens giving 20-100mm equivalent.

To my mind, "compact" means small enough to go in a jacket or fleece pocket. And to my mind IBIS should be standard, especially for any compact camera that's likely to be used hand-held most if not all of the time. (I hope Santa's listening ).

Yes, so this would be basically updating the RX100 ....to M4/3

Sounds about right. I suppose the price would be updated as well.....

I'm also looking forward to stacked photodiode sensors becoming the norm, including for APS-C, 1" and m4/3 sensors.

It doesn't cost anything to wish upon a star, Larry. And Christmas is the time to do it! Let's see if anyone is listening.

I love the RX10 iv and your suggestions would make it even better. Maybe I've missed something but I find the wifi Bluetooth procedure on all the Sony and Canon high end cameras to be overly difficult to turn on/use. Why can't these be like my smartphone in sharing photos via email, text, etc.

Put the GPS tracking back in camera so I don't have to buy a "smart phone," which I won't.

Cut prices.
A Z9 type camera at a $1,500 price.
Other lenses and bodies at similar price reductions.
Take the OM-1 film camera and lenses for the basis of size for full frame cameras.
Lenses that focus and zoom by changing the actual shape of the elements.

Like to see apsc reeeeeeally mainstreamed.
Not dismissing Fuji here. Referring to the big names that make apsc play third fiddle to FF.

"What should the camera makers be working on for 2024 ??"

I would be entertained by innovation rather than incremental evolution.

Look at the HoverAir XI or the DJI Pocket 3; from 2023! They both seem to have come from "out of the box" thinking and from non traditional camera companies. DJI owns Hasselblad now. What will that combination come up with?

It is consumers who choose “FF” cameras; “APS-C” cameras are available.

What I would really like to see is some manufacturer incorporate some of the computational photography software used in cell phones into a real camera. Mirrorless, point-n-shoot, or even a bridge camera (I just don't see it coming in a DSLR of any sort).

Individual features of the software can be enabled/disabled in the menu system,.
