Well stated - people don't seem to understand by not keeping their OS up to date they are putting themselves and us all at risk. It's our responsibility as good Internet citizens.

When a security update is issued it tells the bad guys where there is a hole in the OS they can exploit. Don't apply the patch and you're at risk.

I only have experience with the BH-55. It's a fantastic ball head that I've been using for several years and never had an issue. Easy to adjust and works perfectly in all kinds of weather and conditions. You can't go wrong with any of the RRS products.

I was there a year ago. Good advice here, leave the long lens at home. Be sure to take a good tripod and remember to dress in layers.

I've used Borrow Lenses several times for both body and lens rentals and have been very satisfied.

I'm interested in opinions from anyone using Really Right Stuff's Magpul Gen 2 QD sling. I'm sure there are many other straps that people like, but I'm specifically interesting in hearing from people using this product.

Also, if you’re considering a RAID array, it would be very nice if you could find a consumer grade machine capable of running RAID 3, by far the best/fastest RAID level for large sequential files like imagery. Anyone know of one?

I don't know anyone that's using RAID 3, but this will support most common RAIDs at a reasonable price. I have this model and it runs great:

Another vote for the Synology RAID. I've been running one for several years and it's your best protection against a drive failure. I disagree that a RAID is dangerous, you still need to have a good offsite backup no matter what method you use for storage.

I'm using the NiSi system and the incorporated CPL is very nice. No color cast to the filters at all. I'd recommend it.

I'll second Matt K's courses. His Lightroom course is fantastic and I've just started the Photoshop course he offers. The course are well designed and easy to follow.

Check out these - cleaning cloths that are 18% grey. In a pinch they do the trick:

I shot on the beach in Iceland for many days with my D810 without any problems at all. That included shooting in the water with my tripod on ice beach. I wiped the camera down with a microfiber cloth as much as I could (I bought a few before I left). I wouldn't change lenses on the beach, but I wouldn't take a trip like that and shoot with a lesser camera. Just use it and enjoy.
