Very well done, excellent detail on a wee one. But you must have upped the speed to at least 1/2000 in order to get that detail and prevent motion blur, right šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

uhh... celebrating death & destruction?

Alas, is there much more these days then morbid items on the nightly news? Nowadays one perhaps does not raise their glasses in celebration, but rather to blot out some of the stupidities of the human race. I think the facial features on the cartoon characters spells this out quite well. You from Middle-earth should recognize this fact considering all the wars (death & destruction) youā€™ve been in. Are ye for or against the Dark Lord?

All funds raised benefit the over 7500 Special Olympics Chicago athletes, covering program costs such as transportation, sports equipment, team uniforms, and meals.

About 4,000 people participated in the Polar Plunge 2022 in Chicago.

The Polar Plunge aimed to raise $2 million by Sunday. Each participant was responsible to raise $200 and the event website reports $1.7-million achieved.

Besides North Avenue Beach in Chicago, there were people taking the plunge at 24 other locations throughout Illinois last weekend.

In 2020, the Polar Plunge was one of the last major events the city hosted before the COVID-19 outbreak brought life to a standstill. The 2021 event was held virtually due to the pandemic, though some participants still took a dip in Lake Michigan.

Local WGN legend meteorologist Tom Skilling had the honor of taking the lakeā€™s temperature before the plunge. The thermometer read 42 degrees, but Skilling estimated it was actually around 37 degrees.

With the air and water temperatures both in the 30s, it was certainly chilly. But the smiles, cheering and the cause kept participants going.

Great photos and story. Itā€™s unbelievable what some people will do for a great event such as this šŸ„¶. Congrats to all who braved the elements (including the photographer) whom participated in the fund raiser. This is an event that happens in many areas of the world but not usually for a cause such as yours in Chicago. Up here in the Great White North at our winter carnival they cut a hole in the ice and use it as their swimming pool. However I just watch in my long-johns, parka, toque etc from the side lines. Thanks again Paul for another excellent presentation.

That sucks when you look at the wrong model.

Not sure what you mean by the wrong model Paul. Perhaps it is different in the USA but up here at the main seller in Toronto the price for a Canon R5 body only is $5300. The price for the Canon R5 C Cine body only is $6000. The price for the Canon R mount adapter EF-EOSR is $130 while the upgraded R mount adapter w/control ring lists at $260. So the price for me to purchase a R5 body and adapter is a minimum $5400 CD and by adding our sales tax (13%) of $700 the total is $6100.
I see that in your country the R5 sells for $3800 and the adapter fo $200. I suppose I could purchase one from Adorama and save a few bucks but donā€™t think itā€™s worth the hassle bringing it across the border ( have done it before with mixed results). If I bought from youse then the total cost for me would be $5800 CD (camera $3800 USD = $4850 CD. + adapter $200 USD = $250 CD + sales tax collected at border by government $660 for a grand total of $5760.) A saving of roughly $240 CD. But like I said sometimes the hassle you get in importing is not worth this saving.
In the past few months it should be noted that Canon (along with others) has jumped their prices. Last year after many moons of saving I purchased a 100-400 series II lens at $2100 CD. I see now the same item is listed at $3000 CD. Quite the jump in less than a year. Twas probably the same with their camera bodies. A sign of the times and it ainā€™t gonna get any better. One day I hope to be able to go mirrorless but considering my age and financial position I doubt it will (sadly) happen.
Take care all and keep a-shooting and posting.

I just purchased the R5 and I received it March 3rd. The camera I am replacing is my Canon 5D Mark IV, that I've owned since 2016. Before the R5 arrived, I bought a book and watch countless videos on this camera. I felt pretty prepared on how to set it up and what it could do. As you can imagine the last couple days I set it up, tested it out, checked all my lenses with it. My thoughts are:
OMG!!! This camera is amazing! The EVF, the way you can move AF points with just moving your finger on the screen, the Face Tracking, the way you can save your camera settings to your card. I feel like my photography jumped into the future. I really had no idea it would be this different. I absolutely loved my 5D Mark IV. I never even looked at another camera until the R5. I was hesitate with other Mirrorless camera's because I read a lot about dust and battery issues. I am now a convert. Next I will have to decide on my first RF lens. My glass I have now works beautifully, so I am in no hurry. Maybe the 85mm???? Anyway, the one thing is on the adapter. They say to put it on the lens first, then attach to the camera. Then reverse when taking it off to switch lenses. I am wondering, if it would be okay to just leave the adapter on the camera and switch lenses without removing the adapter every time? I always turn off my camera when switching. I just can't figure out why they would recommend removing the adapter every time you change lenses. Anyway, this camera gets 10 stars!

Sure sounds super good. Congrats on your new camera. I also gave the R5 a quick glance but the $6000 price tag for just a body and adapter put it a wee bit out of my reach as a senior pensioner. Enjoy it and post us some pics

Quite possible this is a Juvenile American White Pelican whom has almost obtained his adult colouring. The ones I have seen at their breeding area in Canada usually have a bit more of the mottled/dirty look than this one. Also note the bicoloured bill something else Iā€™ve seen on these juvies.

Maybe 1862 is not a date at all? What is the character in blue following the date?

If you had read all the thread it was stated that the symbol following the number 1862 was the Chinese one for year. Since Iā€™m illiterate when it comes to this language I will have to accept others translation as being the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž. Just another way to get their hands into your pocket.

Their hands are in your pockets only if you want them. Like Burkphoto said, this subscription is an OPTION that you can either take or not. Your Toyota will perform flawlessly without it. You choose it when you buy the vehicle just like Toyotaā€™s overpriced hood deflector or roof racks. Thatā€™s YOUR OPTION. You can take it or leave it.šŸ¤—
However, if you do want the ability to remote start your vehicle then I guarantee that the subscription method is the best (cheapest) way to go. I donā€™t know the true costs in the good old USA would be but I can give you them up here in Great White North (Canada). Now these prices are for a factory/dealer installed equipment. To have a regular Toyota remote start system installed when ordering would cost you $900CD plus tax for a total of $1020CD. For this you would inherit a second phob to carry around. Or instead you could download the Toyota app and pay them $10CD per month plus tax for a total of $10.50. So you can see by simple mathematics (1020/10.5 = 89 months, or over 7 years) that if you kept the vehicle for say 5 years you would save money with the subscription. That and you would have quite a few other perks that comes with it, such as checking/locking your doors remotely!
I know this as a fact as when my wife and I purchased our 2020 RAV4 Hybrid we opted to have the remote start installed. Because of certain problems in our area we wanted a system that would not be ā€œproblematicā€. We do have the app installed on our iPhone but we found the reliability at the time was questionable. Sometimes it works good other time not at all. Iā€™m sure as time goes by theyā€™ll finally get it working as advertised. However we wanted it to work from day one so we opted for a true remote system. We have not been disappointed. So once our free trial is kaput we will not renew it.
Like I said itā€™s just an OPTION that you can get or not, itā€™s totally up to you. I think myself that had that system been working properly when we bought I would have ā€œopted for the optionā€.

My key fob is just like yours. Mine is a 2021 Toyota Highlander Platinum model. I have remote start, but itā€™s not on the key fob. On my iPhone, I have the Toyota app. When I open it, it gives me the option to remote start the car by holding down the remote start button on the phone, and it starts. It has nothing to do with the key fob at all.

Do a quick search on uTube and you will see that there is a way to start your 2021 Toyota Highlander by using only the key fob. You use a sequence of presses of the ā€œlock buttonā€.

I 2 own a 2019 RAV4 and can remote start it by using the key fob. I think so can you if you want. Since ours is also equipped with a remote start system we donā€™t have to use the key fob method but it does work (curiosity made me do it). You just use is the ā€œlock buttonā€ to perform the job. Just press and release the ā€œlock buttonā€ twice within 2 seconds and your hazard lights will flash. Then press and hold the ā€œlock buttonā€ for 3 seconds. Again the hazard lights will flash and within 10 seconds the vehicle will start. Not sure if I left anything out but you can find the instructions regarding this operation on more than one video on uTube.
