All funds raised benefit the over 7500 Special Olympics Chicago athletes, covering program costs such as transportation, sports equipment, team uniforms, and meals.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 About 4,000 people participated in the Polar Plunge 2022 in Chicago.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 The Polar Plunge aimed to raise $2 million by Sunday. Each participant was responsible to raise $200 and the event website reports $1.7-million achieved.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 Besides North Avenue Beach in Chicago, there were people taking the plunge at 24 other locations throughout Illinois last weekend.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 In 2020, the Polar Plunge was one of the last major events the city hosted before the COVID-19 outbreak brought life to a standstill. The 2021 event was held virtually due to the pandemic, though some participants still took a dip in Lake Michigan.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 Local WGN legend meteorologist Tom Skilling had the honor of taking the lake’s temperature before the plunge. The thermometer read 42 degrees, but Skilling estimated it was actually around 37 degrees.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 With the air and water temperatures both in the 30s, it was certainly chilly. But the smiles, cheering and the cause kept participants going.
Chicago Polar Plunge 2022 All images were captured in RAW from an EOS 5D III and the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM. Processing was performed in Adobe Lightroom 6. The title of each image is a URL link to the host Flickr page for the EXIF details of each image.

Haha - I won't do it either!
But my comment was directed at
13 before he found out that it was a charity event.
He updated his comment.
Thank you Bill, 13, Sarantis, Jim, 47greyfox, merrytexan, flip1948! I came away with a lot of images, enough for slightly different themes / groupings of different posts. Say tuned for the next few days.
Great set...really shows how cold the water is. We have the same thing here for various charities...I will donate but there is no way your getting me in that water!

Thank you Cindy! I haven't been into Lake Michigan in years. In former days, I reserved my annual dip to Labor Day Weekend, maybe the warmest point of the year, and even then, the water is takes-your-breath-away cold.
A really fun set, well done, Paul!
