Alas, is there much more these days then morbid items on the nightly news? Nowadays one perhaps does not raise their glasses in celebration, but rather to blot out some of the stupidities of the human race. Alcohol has a numbing effect on the brain so the terrible news does not seem as traumatic as reality.

My personal experience with drinking to drown sorrows is that sorrows know how to swim.
And sadly, these days we can't tell whether they are dark or white lords anymore.

The sarcasm did not miss my thoughts but IMHO, their very action. Board as they may look, they brought out the spirits so they can enjoy the view. Their words "much better ", "cheers" while toasting the news, further support that.
