Let me clarify that my lenses are all Nikon.

I am going on a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand followed by a trip to Alaska. I take my D7100 with an 18-200 on it, a 35mm 1.8 and for the Alaska trip a 55-300. Is it worth buying a 1.4 Teleconverter and will it work with any or all of these lenses? If so, what model would you buy? Money is NOT no object.

I use the Nikon 18-200 on my D7100 and am very pleased with it. It's gone with me to China and Japan as well as parts of Europe and I have some great shots to show for it. I find it a good balance of weight vs function. Sometimes I wish it was lighter and sometimes I wish it was longer but not very often. I also take my Nikon 35mm with me for use at night as a tripod is a pain, especially in a crowded city like Tokyo. Good luck.

Last night I got pretty good photos of the moon using a 300 f4.5. Through trial and error I arrived at iso 100, f22 and shutter 1650. Even if these exact settings don't work to your satisfaction they will give you a good starting point. Good luck!

I just returned from a three week trip to Japan. If it's any help, I took my D7100 with an 18-200 lens that was used most of the time and a 35mm lens for use at night. I never needed nor wished for any other lenses. My goal like yours was to travel light. Even at that I'm considering getting a bridge camera for my next trip. The D7100 is light until you shlep it around on foot in a city for 8 or 10 hours.

Have a great time. Japan is beautiful and the people are wonderful.

I will soon be leaving on a cruise around Japan and need some advise on what equipment to take. I will be using my D7100 with an 18-200 lens. I also own a 35mm 1.8 and a 55-300 zoom. Are they worth taking along? Also, should I shlep my speed light with me. At some point weight vs utility becomes an issue. I'm also taking my monopod.

Thanks in advance for your advise with this.

While in China last summer I noticed the same problem with my 7100. Keep in mind that the spots can by and large be removed in Photoshop. That being said I contacted Nikon who had me send my camera back to them. I received it back in about two weeks and no more spots. They were a bit vague about the problem but I suspect it needed a sensor cleaning. I would suggest you send yours to them as well. Give them a call. They'll have you send some examples and then send you an RA. It's the best way to go. Good luck!

I traveled through Italy 3 years ago and took my 5100 with an 18-55 plus a 55-300. Barely used the 55-300. More trouble than it was worth. Last summer I spent 3 weeks in China and took my new 7100 with an 18-200. I also took a 35mm 1.8 which I never ended up using. The 18-200 was the perfect travel lens. It's light and fast enough. Just in case I also took my SB700 flash but only used it a few times. Go with the 18-200 and you won't be disappointed. By the way, I also took a monopod and used it quite a bit. Have a great trip.

I actually took a monopod rather than a tripod on my China trip and used it 3 or 4 times. Light, easy to carry and when closed makes a great club and helps keep the guys offering "pretty ladies" at bay..

I spent 3 weeks in China this past summer. I took my D7100 with a Nikon 18-200 plus a 35mm 2.0. I never once changed the lens. The 18-200 did it all. All you'll need is your 18-140. By the way, I took a flash and never used that either. Have a great trip!

Wow! While it's hard to argue that Muslim's have contributed little to our rich history or culture, or that our president, who by the way is a politician, panders to any group that will get him votes, it's time to let got of the "Obama is a Muslim nonsense." And even if he were, what difference would it make? Perhaps you believe only a Christian can or should be president. This is just delusional thinking and not worthy of the sacrifices our forefathers have made.

I recently returned fro a 3 week trip to China. I took my Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 18-200 plus a 35mm 1.8. I never even put the 35 on the camera. For my money, the 18-200 is the perfect travel/all around lens balancing range and weight. For low light just bump up the ISO. Remember that dragging a heavy body and lens gets old fast. By the way, my photos look great.

I just got back from China and took my speed light with me. I used it once and could have lived without it. Just more to schlep. I also took my 35mm prime and never used that either. Found the perfect travel lens to be my 18-200. It did everything I needed. What I did take that I used a number of times was a monopod. It helped compensate for slow speeds in poor light. I also recommend taking a polorizer with you. It really helps with reflection.

Have fun. Rome is fantastic
