Adding a street lens, looking for Nikon advice.
Hello all. I only shoot with a 35mm lens and find that there are times when I have my back to the wall and need a little more width and occasionally there are barriers that prevent me from doing a foot zoom. Im thinking about buying either the Nikon 24-120, 24-85 or the 28-300. I feel that if I need just a bit more width at 35 then 24 should be fine so I am not interested in 18s or 16s. On the long end I dont see me needing much more than 85 but why not grab the 120. Living in the city I dont shoot wildlife but once in a while I will shoot a sporting event. Do I really want to go to 300 on the occasion that I go to a couple of games a year? If any of you have these lenses I would love some feedback/help because I have paralysis by analysis! Thank you.
Marty, given your specs I think you listed the lens in order of interest. The 24-120 is a good choice for the wide end and the 120 gives you a little extra reach. All things considered this lens may be your best choice. ;)
I agree on the 24-120 being a good choice, but at 1/3 the cost I would have to seriously consider the 24-85, its quite sharp and half the size making it much less conspicuous.
Thanks MT, you have one and love it?

i want a 24 prime next,,,well maybe after some longer glass
I have the 24-85 and it is on my D600 all the time. It "IS" my walk around lens. It is exceptionally crisp and I love it. The only time I remove it is for the 70-300 or the 150-500.
I shot a D300s and have 8 or 9 lenses but for walk around and street shooting the Nikon 16-85vr is the one that work by far the best. Sharp, almost distortion free, light and small.
Nice, is that a 2.8 or the 3.5?

What about the 18-200?
Use Nikon's Lens Simulator. You can load your body and then attach various lenses to it to see what they will do on your camera. You can compare on 3 different scenes. Here's the site:

I have 24-120mm that I use on fx & dx bodies. It's versatile, fast and crisp. I highly recommend it!
