JUST BOUGHT A NEW FUJIFILM FINEPIX HS30EXR, SORRY I COULD NOT AFFORD A GOOD CANON, SO THIS IS THE BEST I COULD DO. WITHOUT ANY BULL I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME OPINION ON THIS CAMERA. TAKES GREAT PICTURES AND WILL SHOOT RAW, LARGE LEARNING CURVE FOR ME. BUT HAVING A GREAT TIME.
THANKS SMURPH66

Its not the camera that makes the picture, its the person behind the lens. Don't apologize for having a Fuji, just have fun.

I am looking at purchasing a new camera and wrote to Sony to ask why I should buy from them rather then a company that sells their product. One of the answers they gave was that the cameras they sell have the latest firmware already loaded? Can someone tell me what is firmware and how do you know what version the camera has already installed when you are shopping? Thanks

I use the Tamron lens, have had great results, love it for travel, only have to take one lens and I hae never had an issue with lens crawl, The lens has a lock on it and I do use and it is very secure. I have had mine for approximately 4 years, love it. It also has a 6 year guarantee with it which is a good feature.

Got my new sony A57 today. So far I really like it. Plus's so far.

Small, light, seems well built.

Really fast focus, lightning fast.

Very accurate focus.

High ISO is very good. Took some pics at ISO 6400, noise is about the same as my Canon 50D at ISO 800. ISO 1600 very little noise.

Kit lens, 18-55 is very good, 8.5 out of 10

Very good color rendition in JPG (not tried RAW yet)

If anything, there are too many options on the camera, will take me a lifetime to figure out what they all do.

No PP, SOTC All with 18-55mm kit lens

I've got the Alpha 55 with 18-55 kit lens. I also bought a "brand new old stock" Minolta 28-130 Maxxum lens that was from the last film camera years for $85 at a camera store in Pontiac MI. Below is a picture from a little girl's 1st birthday party last Sunday afternoon using the Minolta auto-focus lens (JPG).

While this isn't an artistic portrait masterpiece you can clearly see the minor wrinkles in the balloon to their right, distinguish the blades of grass behind them, see the pores in their skin, etc. I enjoy that kind of clarity (which can be reduced later if I choose) and the Sony does it for me every time, a tiny bit more-so with the Minolta lens than the kit lens but not by much. I'm sure a higher line Minolta lens or a Sony G series or maybe a Tamron might be even better but I'm very happy so far for what I do.

You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll pick up on the options. It's not as bad as you think. By the way, if you don't use the GPS, turn it off because it eats the battery faster for no good reason.

Thanks for the info that has been shared. I will be shopping this week. I think I will be going with A77. I travel frequently and the weather resistant aspect interests me. I have spent too many dollars on vacations only be rained out and not able to get many shots.(10 days in Alaska). I loved the pix. It really does showcase what a great product Sony producces.

I have just started to look at the sony a 77 and a 65. What is the difference between them, I noticed a sizeable price difference but is there more technology in the a77? I currently use a canon but after my last trip to Europe, I realized the weight became more of a problem for me. Carrying it around become very tiresome, I may just be getting older but the weight was an issue. I noticed many of the sony a55 model there. Everyone said for travel it was great, good results and much easier to carry. Any info would be appreciated.

I am amazed at how many people are so oblivious to the voter fraud problem. I worked the polls for several years in Georgia and saw first hand the attempts at fraudulent voting and the abuse. Anyone not willing to provide valid proof of residency/citizenship needs to become better educated. You can't get a library card without proof of citizenship. More dead people are voting in some states then the breathing ones. Common sense needs to prevail, not political maneuvers.

This question has probably been asked before but here goes - I have been asked to print out some photos to be hung in a public area and would like your comments as to which is better - mat or glossy. The photos will be in under plain glass with no mat or frame. Thank you.

A lot of people like mat though I like glossy myself.

I use both matte and glossy depending on the subject matter. I like matted, coated for landscapes, flowers and use glossy for people. Hope this helps.

We are going to Denver for vacation and we have never been there before, so I would love some suggestions about places to photograph. Also.....any suggestions on places that are a must to have lunch/dinner???

I was in Colorado last year and my husband and I did a theme trip based on ghost towns. One of the best is St. Elmos. Great for photographs, beautiful scenery on the way up. It is at the top of a mountain and gives a great appreciation for what our ancestors survived.

the tammy lense has a lock on it, which I use when my camera is not up to my face and I have never experienced any problem with it tilting or sliding.

I love the Tamron lense. I am a beginner-intermediate photographer and when I purchased my Canon T1i I also purchased the Ta,ron lense. After about 3-4 weeks my husband who has been a photographer most of his life saw how great it was and he also purchased one. We have recommended this to many in our camera club. It is our all-in-one lense that travels worldwide with us. It is light, easy to pack in our bag and does a great job.

I purchased PSE 9 awhile ago and took an online course through a program called ED2Go. It is offered through community colleges nationwide. They have hundreds of courses available. It was a 6 week program with 2 classes twice a week, It is downloadable so you can create a paper copy of the lessons for your use or just keep on your computer. The instructor made it so simple. I took the introductory course and will follow up with the advanced after the first of the year. I have taken 8 or 9 courses through this program on various aspects of photography and have been happy with all of them. One other point if you ar a senoir citizen they are free through your state university system. Hope this helps. Anne

I live in NC and was one of 5 founding members of the Coastal Carolina Camera Club. We started by placing an ad in the local paper asking that anyone with an interest in photography or starting a camera club meet at a specific time and place, we used the local library. We had about 12 people show up, from that group we called ourselves a camera club and began structuring meetings, programs, and other things a club needs for structure. Within 3 months our membership was near 100. We have a web-site, www.coastalcarolinacameraclub.org, became a club member of PSA, have juried competitions, monthly themes and field trips and meet monthly. We are a strong group with a diverse level of interests and talent. Keep working on getting a group formed and enjoy yourself.
