My New Sony Alpha Camera a57

Got my new sony A57 today. So far I really like it. Plus's so far.
Small, light, seems well built.
Really fast focus, lightning fast.
Very accurate focus.
High ISO is very good. Took some pics at ISO 6400, noise is about the same as my Canon 50D at ISO 800. ISO 1600 very little noise.
Kit lens, 18-55 is very good, 8.5 out of 10
Very good color rendition in JPG (not tried RAW yet)
If anything, there are too many options on the camera, will take me a lifetime to figure out what they all do.
No PP, SOTC All with 18-55mm kit lens

Sony kit lenses aren't bad. I use them all the time. But how come you did not opt for the opt for the a65? Just asking.

I may get one. I got this to evaluate the Sony, it got great reviews. I have 45 days to evaluate, if I dont like it, I can send back for full refund.
If I really like this cam, so far I do, I will sell all my Canon gear and get the a65 and some better lenses.

By the way, you may have hit upon something. I always used to shoot everything in RAW. I had a Nikon d40x and my Canon is sitting alongside of my monitor. But with my Sony, I really have no need to shoot in Raw. There is not enough difference to matter any more. For tricky or high contrast shots, I will still shoot in RAW. I sure save a lot of drive space now. You first pic shows why I don't need to shoot in RAW. Don't tell any one. Lol.

I hate to bother you, but what do you think of the ELV so far? My a580 has an optical viewfinder.

You won't be sending it back. I got one a couple months ago and love it. Use all my old Minolta Maxxium lenses on it. I still use my Nikon D60 but less and less each day. Enjoy!!

I am getting high on my new A65 not very different than the A57 but in any event I would recommend buying the David Busch guide from Amazon for what version you stick with. The oem manual merely mentions its features while the Busch guide explains them and their relationship to other settings. Enjoy

I have the a65 kit lens 18/55 ,70/300 , 30mm, and a 50mm on the way.
I am very sold on this camera and lenses , they really perform wonderful

After reading some reviews, there is not much difference between the a57 and a65 except 24mp. Are there other features that I am not aware of?

Nice choice of camera. When are you moving to the A77? lol
The Sony lenses produce good quality images, even their less expensive lenses. I am also curious of thoughts of live view on the Sony. Because of my eyes that is all shoot in is live view and I have found Sony to be exellent.

I have just started to look at the sony a 77 and a 65. What is the difference between them, I noticed a sizeable price difference but is there more technology in the a77? I currently use a canon but after my last trip to Europe, I realized the weight became more of a problem for me. Carrying it around become very tiresome, I may just be getting older but the weight was an issue. I noticed many of the sony a55 model there. Everyone said for travel it was great, good results and much easier to carry. Any info would be appreciated.

What sets Sony's apart from all the rest is their great EVF....Isn't it great to be able to see how the exposure will look BEFORE you push the shutter release instead of AFTER. I don't know how many times this has saved me when I had to shoot something fast and only had one chance. It's also great for situations where the lighting changes a lot. You can easily see if your overexposing or underexposing and then while the viewfinder is still at your eye, make the adjustments needed to get a correct exposure.
