Just noticed you have have GM1...why not pick up an GM5 or an EM10 and use your lenses?

I've been thinking about a different body. And I have the 40-140 which might be perfect. Also considering the GX7 now that GX8 is out. Don't know the gm 5. Will look this week.
I will figure out how to solve my problem, but it does seem a conundrum from the camera makers. Is it that much space to add a view finder, even a pop up to a small camera with a big zoom?
Thanks to all.

I've been searching for a small camera to take to the Galapagos where it will be very sunny. I have a lumix zs30 with no viewfinder and therefore hard to see in bright sun. The good small point and shots with long zooms, for use outdoors, have no view finder. The good shorter zoom point and shoots (like Sony rx100iii) which you would use indoors, have view finders where it's less necessary.
I want good IQ but want to travel light and plan to take 2 cameras and a waterproof.
I will end up with a bigger bridge camera to solve this problem, but the basic problem remains.
Am I missing something?

Was there 10 years ago. Having waterproof or water protected equipment was critical. At the time I had a canon p and s with a waterproof housing, a camera similar to the current lumix fz200 and a primitive waterproof camera. Today I would probably take 2 cameras both with super zoom and good video (the whales breaching, and penguins are incredible to watch and video).
And a better quality waterproof.
Maybe I should take my own advice for my upcoming trip to Galapagos.
We got caught in some very dramatic weather changes, starting out calm warm and sunny and within minutes ending up in a WWII black and white movie with horizontal snow running thru water to scramble onto zodiacs.
It was a fabulous trip.
But prepare for the drakes passage. We had 25 ft waves. And that was ordinary.

Just went to Budapest and Vienna, (only one part on water). But long zoom not necessary but be sure you're ready for night shots. You can take a local 1 hour tour In Budapest where they light up all the buildings along the river. I shot from a boat, but had focus trouble.
Had great food in Budapest (reasonable prices and delicious). Vienna high priced and just ok. Have a wonderful trip!

I want to take a second camera to the galapagos (where a volcano is currently erupting) and to have for the future.
I have a GM1 with a variety of lenses, but want to be sure to have a good back up. (also plan to take a small waterproof point and shoot). I've been driving myself crazy trying to decide.
Main concern is image quality, then size of camera, ease of use.
Anyone have experience with both? THANK YOU !

We were there last summer. Most needed was a long fast lens for whale watching (Juneau) and fast moving bears. And birds if you do that. Extra memory cards, mosquito net hats if you like to hike around lakes. I ended up using my backup lumix zs30 because it was long and fast. Don't need low light, rarely dark enough. Also do some white water rafting! Great fun, not threatening.
Make the whale watching reservations now. Small boats fill fast. Have a great trip!!

Jungle, plains, wooded areas and all in between, leopards in trees require telephoto. Hippo running down road, telephoto and fast shutter. Baboons mating - telephoto and good video, monkeys stealing your
Lunch, sense of humor and Fast camera. Lion staring you down in the road, steady hands and telephoto to get the teeth when he smiles.
LUMIX PandS and bridge caught all and more.
Terrain in africa varies from minute To minute, mile to mile. So you need to be prepared. And quick.

I took the Panasonic zs30 ( replaced by newer model). Need as much zoom as you can get. Wildlife are fast and/or distant for the most part. Probably Tarzan would be too. Take lots of sd cards. Have been in Ethiopia Kenya and Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana. Some jungle, some plains, some swamp, some city, and more. Have a great trip!

Lumix 45-200. I love them all!

BTW, can anyone tell me how to get my hands on the comprehensive GX7 PDF Manual?

Just google lumix gx7 advanced manual. It will be the second or third response. Just download to computer, tablet.

The GX-7 was discontinued back in January. I got the last silver one available from Panasonic Canada on 27 January. There are still some available at dealers in silver and black. I have the 20mm f1.7 and the 12-35 f2.8 and love the system. I may well add a GH-4 and some more lenses and switch to micro 4/3 completely in the next few years.

Oh. And I love love love your photos. The flowers are gorgeous! And the canyon, spectacular. When did you go to Iceland? What time of year?
Thanks again.

I only read good things so I'm puzzled that it's discontinued. I ordered thru Amazon but it comes from adorama. bandhphoto no longer has it.
Planning to love it! What lenses do you carry? Which do you use most ?
Which did you use for the 20x30 print ?
Thanks!
Debbie.
