Which camera to bring to the jungle?

Hi....I'm going to Africa for 3 weeks this summer. I'd like to buy a small, not a SLR or mirrorless camera, to take good photos while running around the jungle. I like the enthusiast compact cameras (Canon G15,Pany Lumix FZ-1000,etc.) but would like to have one with greater telephoto range. What cameras would you recommend?

There's one advanced point & shoot that has a longer reach than both of those you mentioned, the Nikon p7800. It has a 7.1X lens, longer than most advanced point & shoot cameras. The problem is, your going to give up a lot of zoom range with an advanced point & shoot but they do take great looking photo's. Good luck.

Where are you going in Africa? Funny how people equate Africa with jungle. Ive seen more jungle in South Carolina and Florida than I ever saw in Africa. You're looking for a super zoom. Panasonic makes several and one of them is very very good.

What the h*ll are you talking about? What racial stereotype are you referring to? You do know what a jungle is do you?

There is nothing racist in that comment. Jungle is lots of trees close together with swampy ground. Much more of that in North & South Carolina & Florida than in Africa.

After a comment like that, no wonder you're in hiding! That may be the most inane statement I've read since the idiotic rant about the days some on-line stores close. It's obvious you can read, so look up the definition of "jungle".

Thanks, Jethro. It should also be noted that pictures taken in a jungle do not require a long lens; you usually can't see very far in front of you.

They also need to be in the range of f2.8 to 4 max.

The traveler might need a large bag to hold several types of antivenin kits.

Can't be much worse than one of those Rock Pythons they're finding in Florida.

So many choices. I like my Sony RX100 III. One lens, lots of adjustments, and a tilting LCD.

Be careful in some countries there. It is the only place I encountered extremely strict camera laws. You do want to come back.
