Sony & Nikon & Canon put out 600mm prime lenses in the $13,000 range. I can get a Fujifilm or Tamron or Sigma 150-600 mm lens for $2000 or less. I would love to see the same distant object taken at 600mm with one of the primes and one of the lesser telephotos at differing levels of cropping to see the difference in detail/sharpness. Any website show this or does someone here have such photos? I am not expecting a dramatic difference as I understand you pay a high premium for incremental improvements generally. I am not planning on any $13K purchase (unless I win Mega Millions lottery), but just curious.

It's not so much that the final image is that much better, especially at f8 or so. What you are paying for is the larger aperture, better stabilization, better AF, and much better build quality. If you don't need those, the cheaper option will serve.

The blue line is,common to all the circular fisheyes that I have seen, and other lenses at the edge of their image circle. I'm not sure what exactly causes it optically.

Sony A 7II.
I tried both and the photos seem to look identical.

Thanks

Better to shoot in color, because there are many way to convert to B&W in post, for instance you can specify the lightness or darkness of different hues, as if you shot monochrome film with a color filter over the lens. Lightening yellow, for instance, lightens skin tones in monochrome portraits. If the camera outputs monochrome jogs you've lost all chance of that.

lol... I know. Technology changes they way tools are used, if at all.

I use my pocket computer to: talk, text, know the weather prognostication, check my calendar, photograph, write Yelp reviews, get an Uber/Lift, facebook, instagram, tweet/thread, get CVS medication notifications and etc.

It's true I am not a professional photographer and kudos to you if you are.
When I started taking pictures and developing B&W pix in 1970 very few people carried cameras. Photographer filled a niche. Today EVERYBODY has a camera. Today celebrities with millions of followers have their images seen within minutes. Ansel would be envious.

Smartphones are here, that's clear. Deal with it.

For me the opposite. The phone is handy for quick records and snapshots, useless for real photography

I guess if it ain't woke speech, it should be censored.

Hey old man, here's your chance to show us how smart you are. Without restricting access to firearms, how would you reduce and possibly eliminate mass shootings and murders?
I'm serious. I'm looking for a solution and who better to come up with one than you?
BTW - Putting people in jail won't work because many mass shooters have never been arrested.
But why waste your time? I'm listening. What should we do?

Plenty of countries in the world (most of them) which restrict access to firearms in one way or another, which have as high or higher quality of life than the US. What's wrong with some prudent restrictions on firearms, and licensing?

According to a friend who is living in the area Nam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the life there is pleasant and open, and so much safer than Miami and a hell of a lot cheaper.

It is important to view the past and the now and forecast the future with clear thoughts. Conservatives are renowned for conserving mental energy rather than clear objective thinking which requires changing old views. To MAGA they want to go back to the past... the imaginary and to some degree real Great Times in the USA.

PS: do not label me for disagreeing with "tradio"... Yes, my thinking is distorted by education; Science, Math, and worse of all Philosophy and Psychology courses.

President Jimmy Carter's brother, Billy Carter, was a big issue, he drank too much beer. That was used against President Carter. H****r B***n's lap top is as important as Billy's beer. H****r's "sweet heart deal" is an example of crime that is too trivial to pursue when houses [of congress] are burning kindled by top secrete papers shared with foreign powers by trump. H****r is a diversion from the big story, Trump.

Billy and H****r remind me of the foolish Prodigal Son story: A son asks his father for his inheritance, then squanders it recklessly as he lives a life of indulgence. With nothing left of his fortune, he is forced to work as a hired hand for a pig farmer.
Luke 15:11-32- The Parable of the Lost Son

In this case the inheritance was the example and guidance of a successful father. Squandering was the drug indulgence of the son. Money crimes are so trivial compared to Trump's selling out USA for money and fame to feed his ego. What is on the laptops of all the republicans and their sons????

Yes indeed. Diversion from Republicans destroying the rule of law and subverting democracy. I'm not a big fan of Papa Joe but infinitely better than anything the Republicans have on offer.
