My Nikon is as useful to me as a doorstop.
lol... I know. Technology changes they way tools are used, if at all.
I use my pocket computer to: talk, text, know the weather prognostication, check my calendar, photograph, write Yelp reviews, get an Uber/Lift, facebook, instagram, tweet/thread, get CVS medication notifications and etc.
It's true I am not a professional photographer and kudos to you if you are.
When I started taking pictures and developing B&W pix in 1970 very few people carried cameras. Photographer filled a niche. Today EVERYBODY has a camera. Today celebrities with millions of followers have their images seen within minutes. Ansel would be envious.
Smartphones are here, that's clear. Deal with it.

My 30+ year old Pentax is still useful as a camera. I took around twenty photos yesterday. Yes, I’ll have to wait a few days to see the pictures, but I’m willing to wait.
I also have an iPhone to take photos. I use them for different purposes.

As good as my iPhone 14 is, and it is good, it is no match for my camera..

I ordered the ShiftCam LensUltra 75mm macro lens for my iPhone 14 pro max, hope it is as good as the reviews say it is.

Perhaps you'll post some pix on UHH? There's a section just for smartphones here.

I can do that as soon as they release the new lens and deliver it which should be in sometime in August.

He's also a 'naked beach' drone surveillance merchant. jussayin'
I've recently dusted off my Coolpix P530 for just keeping handy when I'm out.
You will find more people shooting with a cell phone than a Nikon camera. My Nikons are more useful to me than a doorstep.
Yes, more people have a camera today but, do they know how to use it? I have seen "professional" wedding photographers with sophisticated cameras and professional lenses charging outrageous prices for a mediocre work.
Technology is important if you need it otherwise any digital camera will take great images with good optics. It depends a lot on the photographer. I remember the 60's when I was shooting with a Nikon F and a hand held Sekonic meter. Like you I was also developing and printing my b&w images and yes, it was not common seeing others using cameras. It was then complicated but too easy today with digital.

I will buy you a new door stop in exchange for your Nikon camera.

So why didn't you post this in the SmartPhone section?

I actually have a doorstop made by my grandfather a hundred+ years ago. My Nikon makes much better pictures than it does. Guess your Nikon can multi-task better than my grandfather's doorstop.
I get no pleasure from talking a picture with my phone. I love using my camera.

I often use my camera - any camera - to record events. The ‘camera’ {even an iPhone} I have with me works better than the camera I don’t have with me.
Smart phones, be it Android or I~Phone are fitting a cheap way for everyone to be a "photographer". I have repeatedly asked & tried to research Apple, Samsung, Google who & where the camera lenses of the phones are made...Never a response. I know that owners of DSLR &/or mirrorless know how their lenses are made. There is also the mass production of countless thousands of phones vs high quality production of camera bodies & lenses. Finally there is the human aspect of dirt, fingerprints, scratches on camera lenses...
Download an image from a phone & side by side with an image from a camera work with them in post production.
Again, for ametuers, wanna be, have at it......BTW, this subject has been covered so many times here..
