Part of the reason people think so highly of EVs is how net zero was calculated.With beef they start with the cow in the field,then calculate how much grass they eat and how much flatulence is produced and other factors, but with EVs they totally ignore the fact that the lithium and cobalt mines in Africa, (mostly manned by child labourers) use huge machines powered by gas and diesel fuels, have to dig up 500,000. Lbs of earth to get enough material to produce one 1,000 lb battery. The material also has to be transported by truck, air or other means which all run on oil based fuels. This process causes more so-called pollution just to make the battery so that there is more carbon produced before one takes delivery of their EV then one would produce in years of driving a conventional vehicle.
As for carbon being a pollutant, it is beneficial for growing plants which is why it is called a greenhouse gas and according to statistics the world is 15% greener than it was in the year 2000 , even the mighty Sahara desert has shrunk.
