This may be an interesting read/listen/watch to some here on UHH, I did a search and did not find any previous
post with this link, although the subject may have been brought up before by members here.

My Nikon D850 has a MirrorUp option. How does this differ from using a mirrorless camera? Couldn't find anything right on point in the search menu.

Mirror-up, live view on a DSLR is pretty close to what a Mirrorless does as you surmise, much more than just a camera stabilization as rgrenaderphoto wants you to believe.
Live view is hard on battery life and heats up the sensor too.....maybe should't be used other than occasionally as an alternative to normal operation on a DSLR.

#1 is from four years ago with a bridge camera. #2 is from around that same time period (with a dslr Canon Rebel) and now seems oversaturated and in need of better editing Both were shot at sunrise.

One cool - and challenging - aspect of shooting the moon when it's at the horizon is you can see it moving...and it moves fast!

Also, be prepared for the "charts" to not be accurate. Maybe phone apps are better, but the website I usually used would indicate I had 20 more minutes for moonset than I actually did.

I like that first one....you are quite a damned Photographer Linda From Maine !

I see a lot of inexpensive Nikon film cameras on ebay with what sound like excellent lenses. will these lenses work on my D5300 using manual focus, or is the aperture non functional as well?

You can read up on all you want to know and more by doing a search here on UHH,
There are internet links that will answer all your questions also, the D5300 is not
really the camera you want if you want to use "older" Nikon lenses.
Happy reading.....

John Howard,
All that you are saying is fine and after trying all the different ways you will
prefer one or two which you will use more often than not.
One other thing to watch is all the anti-shake technologies, just make sure
you don't ruin a picture by just forgetting to flip something on or off...depending
on the make and model and the way you are shooting.
Also with today's digital tech you can afford to shoot more than needed just to make sure !

My first, and so far, only DSLR is a Nikon D50 which I bought myself as a retirement present in 2006. At the time, I thought it was amazing, having only previously owned a film Nikon SLR and poor quality point and shoot digitals. I now know it is basically obsolete. It cannot use an SD card with a capacity larger than 2 GB, which was then huge. My question is whether it has any value other than its ongoing utility to me. If I should wish to sell it, what could I reasonably expect to get for it?

Nothing wrong with the 6MP D50....I have one and it serves me well or would if I bothered to take pictures !
I also like my Canon SX50 which is one hell of a little bridge camera !
I wouldn't get rid of it if I were you!

They as of this morning news have a 75% death rate of animals in their care. The highest in the industry.

Obviously your comprehension of newscasts is not 100%.....I suggest you check on that .."75% death rate of animals
in their care...." then post a retraction and a correction in your figures !.....or maybe you can get a job with one of them
outfits who post poll results....you sound smug enough with what you blurt out !
