how did u get the black velvet backround ?

I just bought a couple of yards at the local place where the girls go to buy their dress and curtain/drape materials.
Black velvet does gather fluff but it also gives you a good non-reflective background when you need an absolute black.

There you go.. Black velvet background, one flash head high on the left to the rear with small softbox.

Great set of images. One small point, watch your horizons, all three are wonky and need levelling to make the pics perfect..

You've certainly stopped the water by using the flash, could I suggest that you scan the whole viewfinder before making any exposure
and remove in this case distractions such as the bottle on the right. Water is always better lit from behind but I realise that you're just
getting going with this and may not have a separate flash unit. Perhaps a darker background would help.
I could post an example if that's OK with you..

Yes, sad but true. One problem, the next step up for me is a $10,000.00 lens and there is no way I can afford it.
That is three time what I have just invested.
You wouldn't happen to have an extra 10 grand laying around I can have do you?

For you Jim? Of course. I'll just need your bank account details and the password naturally...
I'd concur with coco's advice about the big Sigma, they are surprisingly good. I tested one few weeks back that was
giving very furry results, turned out that the 'free' filter that the dealer threw in to sweeten the deal was made from
recycled Coke bottles. Don't go cheap on filters !

IMHO I'd dump the converter, never met one I liked yet. They always degrade the image, always, even the expensive ones.
Plus you can never recover that loss of quality with software.
The real answer is get closer or get a longer lens. Sad but true.

For a first time you're doing OK. I'd make one small suggestion, always try and get on the animals level. I know it's wet and there's snow around but it will result in better images.

My two cents worth..
The BW film used was 5"x 4" Kodak Tri-X 320. I had a look at the notch codes..
Boring ? Yes, but it gets in the way of the play-school arguments..
