To freeze water, you need a shutter of at Least 1/250. if you dont have enuff d.o.f., try a wider lens and move closer. To blur a waterfall, try a shutter speed of 1/8 or so. Use a tripod and a release cable or the cameras self timer to avoid camera shake. Also, consider in your cmposition if the water should be the center of interest or simply an element of composition,

You've certainly stopped the water by using the flash, could I suggest that you scan the whole viewfinder before making any exposure
and remove in this case distractions such as the bottle on the right. Water is always better lit from behind but I realise that you're just
getting going with this and may not have a separate flash unit. Perhaps a darker background would help.

i used black towel and hung it up in shower and got a pretty cool effect wow this is so fun
