If you stopped because there was a person lying in the road, and someone slammed into you with their motorcycle, it would be the fault of and negligence by the motorcycle driver. If traffic were stop and go and you were the last person in line and someone slammed into you with their motorcycle, it would be the fault of and negligence by the motorcycle driver.

Therefore, the crime here is not that the person stopped, but rather the reason that they stopped. This is an absurdly harsh sentence for the crime of stopping for the wrong reason. The prosecutor admitted as much when she said "what we hope is that a clear message is sent to society that we do not stop on the highway for animals."

It is the responsibility of the motorcycle driver to be prepared for any circumstance, including a stopped or disabled vehicle in the road.

I am going to brake for a dog in the road. If someone runs into me, they are following too closely or going too fast. Granted, this is extremely tragic, the driver of the car should have pulled off the road, should have put emergency flashers on...

Out here in BC if someone is stopped in the middle of the road and you hit them it's your fault. You don't need any 4 way flashers. It happened to me. I come from Ontario and I consider 90% if BC drivers stupid and ignorant. Most of them couldn't get a license for a tricycle.

Some of the acronyms used here are not readily apparent to me, such as "G.A.S." Is there an inclusive list available?

I've been on holidays but here is my contribution.

Thank you all for your replies. I will include as much as possible in our trip. I have seen other people pose such questions so I did too. I hope I can return the favour to someone someday. Thank you.

We are going to Calgary for our honeymoon. We do not have a lot of money at the moment. Weddings are expensive as I'm finding out. :!: Does anyone have any suggestions for thing we can see and do while we are there June 7-11? She loves animals and the zoo is a must see. What other things can we do? We will have a car. Any and all thoughts are welcome.

There is a belief on this site that if don't spend $600.00 to $2000.00 for a tripod are likes there of you won't have real stability; I my self own three or four tripods for under $300.00 and don't have any problems what so far, one of them is a tripod I bought fifty years ago. All of what I use are made of aluminum. Now that that's been said the newer composition fiber types are very reliable from what I have read, maybe someday I will buy one? I say purchase a good one and that you can afford.

I agree. I too have a very old Slik (1985?) Aluminum and not that light but stable as hell. As long as its sturdy and can carry the wight of the camera and lens its good.

But the greatest Electrical Pioneer of them all was Thomas Edison, who
was a brilliant inventor despite the fact that he had little formal
education and lived in New Jersey. Edison's first major invention in
1877 was the phonograph, which could soon be found in thousands of
American homes, where it basically sat until 1923, when the record was
invented. But Edison's greatest achievement came in 1879 when he
invented the electric company. Edison's design was a brilliant
adaptation of the simple electrical circuit: the electric company
sends electricity through a wire to a customer, then immediately gets
the electricity back through another wire, then (this is the brilliant
part) sends it right back to the customer again.

I hope you don't mind, I worked on the photo. I cropped it, lightened up the cat, especially the face, to bring up some detail, sharpened and boosted the saturation a bit. I hope you like it.

Nice job. Someday I'll find the time to learn my programs.

What rules are bothering you? Never mind. At a minimum, I'd do some cropping. There's a lot of dead space on the left. Maybe even crop to a portrait orientation instead of landscape to close in on your subject matter. Next time, you might want to try to get closer, though I understand you only had the one chance. Who told you you can't do anything with JPEG? Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Gimp, Picasa, Lightroom, blah, blah, blah - all can work on JPEGs. JPEGs may not be the ideal original format, but that doesn't mean you can't get a lot done.

I know that in general there are no rules. You take the pic because it pleases you.

Maybe the word is guidelines. For example- no poles growing out of peoples head and so on.

When I took the picture I had to work fast as the dog was looking elsewhere. I got lucky there were no poles around.
