In case it's actually broken, you can still sell it on eBay.

Well its still got some usefull life left im sure and it sure makes a nice back up to my 5D. So I think i'll keep the old girl around my neck for a while. She still has some pretty curves.
I've taken out the SD card so its not trying to back up in the buffer. This seems to be working while Im sitting at my desk. Saw this trick on a forum. These cannons don;t like to back up from a CF to a SD it tends to make them cranky.

Is it possible you have shot a bunch of images & your camera is trying to load them into memory be for allowing you to do this again?

This seems to be the most sensible solution. As I got this camera for a bargain (Free) i put in some older cf cards and a lower memory sd. Which I understand can cause some problems in Cannon.

If you were wondering why your brother gave it to you... :D

See if you can find out how many clicks are on the shutter, which is not easy with a Canon. Considering the age of the camera, replacement might be a better move than repair.

You have a memory card in it, right? Set to Auto?

As DWNJ said, it might just be the buffer filling up. How does it work with single shots?

Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

If you were wondering why your brother gave it to ... (show quote)

Thanks for the info but I have some experience. I have a Cannon 5D mK ii as well and know how to use it. I have memory cards in. The shutter count is 946. as I said he just bought the camera to try to out toy me several years ago. He never really was interested in photography. I, however, make a rather substantial living from it.

Maybe the battery charge is low? If not, try setting the camera back to factory defaults. Start there and see what happens.

If your brother is looking to try anything else and then unload them, I can give a list and my address.

For sure He is getting tired of his harley road glide. I'll keep you in mind.

I thought so too but the battery is new and fully charged. I had already reset the settings to the default. Thanks anyway.

My brother just sent me his Cannon 1D mk ii as he doesn't know how to use it and has more money than talent. So now its mine. Thanks Bro. but I wasn't born a genius either. I was out playing with my new toy yesterday and took some machine gun bursts (Very neat) on my new camera after which time the camera shut down. Nada. She don't work. I took the battery out and reloaded it (Rebooted it.) and it worked again. Some more bursts and budda bing it shut down again. Does anyone known what the problem is? Is it a buffer problem righting to the two sd and cf cards? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks all, I think I will take it of my little brothers hands He only used it twice. Eyes and bank account are bigger than his photographic commitment.

My brother wants to get rid of his Cannon 1D mk ii cheap he says he will give it to me for 250.00. Sounds good to me but I have a 5d mk ii and I love it. I`m thinking of using the 1d as a back up. Has any one had any experience with this older pro camera. And could offer me any advice.

Yup 1.4 is probably a canon teleconverter. You wouldn't use that for close up work.

These look okay but as others have said its the reeds that are the problem. Make sure you IS in on if you're not using a tripod. And you grainy photos may be the result of too high an ISO.

Model releases are only needed if you plan on selling the photos to media or publishing them and selling the rights or the published piece.

The mark 111 is everything the mark 11 isn't It came out one month after I bought my mark 11. 3-400 difference is a no brainer however, You have a 900.00 lense included on the mark 11 so your difference is really 1200-1300, cause you still have to by the lens. THe extra focus points and the faster burst rate make the mark 111 a better choice but, I love my mark 11 and won't be upgrading for some time.
