I have the Nikon 18-300 on the D800 and a sigma 18-200 on a D300. While I have a number of other lenses for differing needs, these two are almost always mounted and are used for most of my everyday shooting. I get good results from both, and have several other Sigma lenses that I am very satisfied with.

If you look way qt the top, it shows preview, which is an application that just gives a quick glimpse. You might try "get info", and see what program is selected to open files of that type. I would think you might want to set PSE as the default.

When I bought my D800, I also bought the Nikon 28-300 VR lens. Highly rated, and deservedly so. I have been more than pleased with the performance and sharpness.
But...I cannot understand why the engineers capable of building such an elaborate , well functioning object seem unable to design a lens hood that will attach to the lens with some degree of solidity. On the lens, ready to use , or reversed for storage, it barely maintains contact with the lens. I know this flaw is common with lenses, all of mine have strips of gaffers tape stuck on them, used to secure them to the lens.
Is it merely to sell us 89 cents worth of plastic for $20, or can someone toss out a different issue.
Not a big thing, my only gripe with an otherwise well functioning lens. Must be time for bed!

Absolutely! I agree I come from a sales and customer service background. I believe in "You get what you pay for" and think good service is worth something and service above and beyond earns loyalty. His service is above and beyond in this case and I will definitely buy this from him as well as several other necessities I'll be needing from him. Probably won't check Internet pricing too much. Bought the camera by researching and finding an Internet deal. I told him what I wanted, and the price I could buy it at. Then explained my willingness to pay a slight premium for his service. He found a rebate on a lense that made the price even lower. He was quite pleased to "earn" my business, and will remain loyal to him. He is also willing to provide info, training, and just plain free services frequently! Just the way I'd like to run a business if it was mine. I've recommended him to several other people and 2 have bought from him. One bought a high end Canon and a high end Nikon from him. A pro, new to the area looking for a quality shop to do business with. He is in the process of furnishing a studio with equipment from there.

Sound philosophy, well stated. Good local companies deserve and need our support.

Are you referring to "shutter click"? Your DSLR has a real. moving shutter and will create shutter noise. Many point and shoots and phones have electronic shutters and add the sound to make the shot seem "real"). Often those cameras allow you to eliminate the sound.

Looking at these photos, it is a tribute to the response of everyone that except for three that died instantly, everyone else survived! Not trying to minimize the horror of what these bastards did, simply affirming that there are many more good people than evil.

Maybe I can upgrade them when they arrive today. :D

The new 2500 mAh are kinda pricey at $5.00+ each. Mine are $2.62 delivered. The 2000 mAh are described as 1900 mAh minimum. Interesting.

They are, but factoring in the number of times they are used, They are still a bargain, and I appreciate the extra juice when shooting. I never use more than 1 set of spares, and that is on a lengthy shoot.

I have always believed that the right manufactures conspiracies. That they spin crazy byzantine theories about what their "lefty" president is doing. For the most part, I think they're lunatics.

But then came the IRS. The AP. Obama has given his enemies credence - a quality they did not possess before - and has forced all of us to look at him with nothing but skepticism. I was not a fan of this president, and I can tell you he is no liberal, but I didn't ascribe evil motives to him. Notice the past tense. Pity, he could have been a beacon of good.

I agree that his motives are highly suspect, he is leading us to a place we do not want to be. The sooner he takes his flight home on Marine corp 1, the better for all of us. Sadly, next in line is Biden.

[quote=jerryc41pIf you buy new ones, look for the 2,000 mAh. Our closest Costco is hours away, but I can shop with them online.[/quote]

I just bought 2500 mah Eneloop XX from Thomas distributing. Cost is about $5 each,

I was already using them, but am re[lacing every other brand with those. I also bought a charger from them years ago that charges each battery, individually controlled. I bit pricey, but it has hundreds of cycles and my batteries do really well with it.

I am reminded (again) today that keeping a copy of image rescue software available can be a saving factor. Inadvertently formatted a card before realizing I had not downloaded a few images I needed to forward to the newspaper! Fired up an old copy of Lexar Image rescue and while it took about twenty minutes to recover all the images on the card, every one I needed was there! Having that available from one of the major card manufacturers can turn a bad day into a fine one. If you don't have it, you might want to download it now, just in case.

As a firefighter and freelance news photographer, I see many things I might photograph. I have my own set of rules, not legal but keeping me comfortable with what I do.I won't submit blood and gore for sensationalism, I will submit photos of emt's working on severely injured victims. I wont submit photos of bodies, although I might submit a victim being removed from a building or vehicle for treatment, even if they appear to have expired. Not close up, but to document the efforts. I won't get in someones face, but will shoot a person who is obviously greiving, often that part of the story brings home the price of very bad decisions. Just a few of the things I keep in mind. I have no compunction about shooting anything, but am quite particular about what I submit for public viewing.
Just my two cents worth.
