I learned early on with my 35mm Minolta SLR to hold the cassette in my hand while i threaded the leader thru the slit in the take up reel, then made a few winds of the leader onto the reel before I placed the cassette in the camera and tensioned the film. Only then would I close the camera back and wind the film, watching that the rewind crank turned like it should. Never had a problem, and it was apparent when rewinding the film when the film pulled free from the take up reel because there was a noticeable loss in tension.

Sounds plausible but why only the odd photo going belly up? Will check it out.

I had a laptop which had a problem similar to that; occasionally a few files would show up as corrupted. Every time I turned it on, a few other files would be corrupted; not long after that, the hard drive quit. I would suggest getting the other laptop or an external hard drive, and start copying everything of value off the old one.

If you go to Death Valley, might as well stop at Rhyolite, too.

I'm tired of seeing all the hummingbirds, cardinals, and who knows what kind of other birds. Ditto for flowers. How about going to the closest zoo, taking photos of the ugliest animals there, and posting them.

I have Canon 6D [full frame]and 70D [crop], plus a Nikon P900. 70D has been my main "walking around" camera, with a Tamron 18-270 lens [now replaced with the 18-400 lens.] And if I don't want to carry a large camera, I have a little Canon SD780 IS I can carry in my pocket.

I tried shooting at the moon last night too, with my Nikon P900; unfortunately, there were high, thin clouds so the pictures came out a bit fuzzy compared to shooting on a clear night. As far as your tripod head causing the movement, be aware that at 2000mm equiv., the moon will cross your frame in about 5 minutes. If you want to keep it centered, you will be readjusting your camera every couple of minutes.

Was just thinking about going to the Murphy's store in Clarksville, IN. this morning. I've dealt with them over the years, occasionally in Louisville, but usually their store in Clarksville, IN. Never had a problem with them.

So. Does anyone else have this problem? If not how do you set up BBF to avoid it?[/quote]

Shut off BBF temporarily and go back to autofocus on shutter button.

I have a cheap Casio "atomic" watch [about $39] that resets itself every night; keeps exactly the same time as my "atomic" alarm clock. Battery lasts about 8 or 10 years, which is longer than the watch band lasts. In the past, when the band broke I just bought a new watch [I'm on my third one], but the most recent time, I got a band from Amazon for ~$10 & changed it myself [with a lot of effort and cursing].

All of you grammar morons out there: You LEND something to be used (an action). The object of what you lend is the loan, whether it is money or equipment. Another ubiquitous grammar moron choice of words is "impact" to mean "affect". A hammer blow is an "impact", the nail being driven into the wood, is the "affect". We are now a nation of illiterates.

Speaking of grammar morons and a nation of illiterates, "affect" is a verb; the word you want is the noun "effect."

I've skied in the rain while wearing a trash bag to keep halfway dry; whatever works for you is acceptable!

Find something to lean against, bridge rail, fence post, lamp post, tree, car roof [engine off], anything solid. Or find a place to sit down and try to support your elbows. If you can find somewhere you can support both elbows on while resting the back of the camera against your head, you have a simple tripod. Use 2 sec. or 10 sec. delay; use a fast shutter speed.
