Thank You. It didn't even get dark around here that I noticed.

Even at 98 % coverage it would still seem very light. Darkness came very quickly as the sun completely disappeared. And just as quickly after totality, it got light again. I was just east of Clarksville TN where our Jackson Photo Club went.
Almost no clouds. It was awesome.

My Nikon d7100 uses an EN-EL15 lithium battery. I'd like to purchase a backup battery plus a charger . I've seen a wide range of prices from a variety of sources- $90 to $20. I know it isn't much money but I don't like wasting it either. Is one as good as another or is the Nikon that much better?

I bought Wasabi batteries for my D7100. They will not charge up after 1 year of use. I won't buy them again.

The other day I find out that I need batteries for my Canon's cameras-AV-1--AE-1 and AE-1 Program. No problem to get. Wrong. After looking in two Kinney 's store, two Walmark' s store and two Walgreens. I have to order the battery via the internet. The battery in question is a Duracell 28L 6V battery. I known this battery is a very small item, but show me why brick and mortar stores are going by the wayside.

The Energizer A544 or 4LR44. I found mine at CVS.

I recommend the PANTAN Q-6 Plus. It is light enough to carry, but has heavy duty legs. And the head is smooth as silk. I love it. Here is a link to it on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Pantan-Professional-Aluminum-Magnesium-Recorder/dp/B01A3HLJZO

You would not want to go on a 3 mile hike with it but for everyday use it is great!

There is a chart here of exposures...
http://www.mreclipse.com/SEphoto/SEphoto.html

Exposure will depend on the attenuation of the filter. I used f/11, ISO 200, and shutter speed of 1/200s with a MARUMI DHG ND 100000 filter.

Yes. Fotodiox model FDNKG. About $34.95. Not sure if Band H has it, but search around.

My thoughts exactly. Who would pay for such a picture? It, frankly, is a terrible picture! The building is out of focus, not straight, and I don't see a reason for the photo.

Sta away from camera stores with strange names like "Best Damn Cameras" or Lowest Priced Cameras". They will rip you off.

Actually, Band H photo in NYC says the grey market cameras come with a 1 year warranty. Non-grey market come with a 4-year warranty. At least I read that on their web site.

I would not get a camera you would out grow. Get the D7200 for $1400. B and H in NYC is my favorite. Adorama is good too.

Yep, use manual focus and a tripod, maybe a little higher ISO would help.

Have your subject closer to the camera or have the background further away. By the inverse-square law, light from the light source will fall off so that the background will be darker than the subject. By having the background further away, the BG can be 1-stop darker, 2-stops darker, or whatever. You can actually make a white background look black if it is far enough away. Experiment with a flash and a white towel at different distances, and you'll get it.

This is what I use for event photography. It works great. I made something similar to this, but it just did not look "professional", so I bought this one instead. It is two-sided- white on one side, metallic silver on the other.

https://www.amazon.com/pangshi-Two-Sides-Diffuser-Reflector-Speedlite/dp/B00NV3DE8I/ref=pd_sim_421_22?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00NV3DE8I&pd_rd_r=GY54Y539R6BFZSEF83GJ&pd_rd_w=dzdFb&pd_rd_wg=1GE4t&psc=1&refRID=GY54Y539R6BFZSEF83GJ

I move the flash up to a 45 degree angle.

I also have the D500 and the Yongnuo 568 flashes. Glad I got the Yongnuo since mine does the high-speed sync. Since the camera also does HSS, I can do portrait outside and still have the background black. Great for flowers, too.
