The other day I find out that I need batteries for my Canon's cameras-AV-1--AE-1 and AE-1 Program. No problem to get. Wrong. After looking in two Kinney 's store, two Walmark' s store and two Walgreens. I have to order the battery via the internet. The battery in question is a Duracell 28L 6V battery. I known this battery is a very small item, but show me why brick and mortar stores are going by the wayside.
Did you try a camera store for an old discontinued camera? I bet B&H camera would have it for you.
You expect these stores to store a seldom asked battery for a camera created in the 70???
What dream world are you living in?

Concur. I own a number of older cameras and I can always find replacements at batteries plus.

Market dynamics. How many people wander around with an AE-1, AT-1, A-1, AV-1, AE-1P, or AL-1 bouncing off their belly button these days? Stocking those batteries would be a financial loss maker, except for a large online distributor like Amazon with global market reach. I'm glad I can still get them for my AE-1, and equivalent batteries for my wife's FM-2n.
Brick and mortar stores still have a significant role to play, but finding hard to get stuff is much more effective online for both retailers and consumers.

The battery is used in many devices not only those old Canon.

I was able to buy them at my local photo store (Southeastern Camera) with no problem.

There is a limit to what even a big-box store can stock. If an item, even though still in use, doesn't generate enough sales it doesn't get stocked. Items like that are usually available on the company website, as this one is.

That's true, but the internet is useful. A quick search brought up three Walgreens stores that claim to have them in stock, all a mile or less from my house. Then again, we still have a few camera stores in San Francisco also.
Perhaps the question is whether Walgreens is still a brick and mortar store, or whether it's a clicks and mortar business these days...

I buy all my batteries from Amazon. How many of those batteries would a local store sell? How much would they want to invest in buying a bunch of them, hoping to sell them before they expire?
