Nice detail, when you consider the lighting limitations, it becomes clear that this is a good shot. Great job.

Greetings from Puerto Rico.
I would suggest that the glass on any camera AND the sensor size/sensitivity play a critical part in image-making when it comes to either detail (small, medium or large), texture as they both relate to structure.

I’ve noticed in the last 6 months to a year that the number of HDR images being posted on various social media and other photography sites, including Ugly Hedgehog, have dwindled. We no longer see over cooked landscapes that have a cartoonish quality. Maybe the novelty has worn off, but I think there is something else at play. Modern mirrorless cameras, whether Sony, Nikon, Canon and even M43 bodies have sensors that have such improved dynamic range that HDR processing is no longer needed. With LR Classic and its new masking capabilities, it is possible to selectively brighten, saturate, bring out the shadows, and even selectively modify colors that there does not seem to be a much of a role for HDR processing anymore. Obviously, this is my opinion based on my experience, but I’m interested in what others think.

To some folks HDR is but a passing fad, while to others it is an important tool.
As with anything else, experience broadens the understanding of all the pertinent aspects of the process.
The HDR process is most effective when appreciated through both Luminescence and Tonal Range as it relates to exposure blending.
Permit me to submit the attached HDR (5-image) as illustration.

Because of my Darkroom background, I thoroughly enjoy PP. I see it as a means to an end. Ala Ansel Adams, I previsualise the image before capture, PP then allows me to bring the image to its previsualised reality.

When it comes to integrity and veracity, the "Internet" lags far behind. Online advice should only be taken as convenient advice. If you want to get credible advice, roll up your sleeves.

This dicussion was going well until someone took the subject and flushed down the toilet.
So much for pertinance vs inpertinance.

Hi, your Tamron 150-600 lens sounds good.
I'd like to look at a other pertinent issues.
-Take a travel adapter (multiple types of AC connectors) to charge your batteries.
-Limit your change of lenses (sensor dust).
-Take extra memory cards.

May I suggest a vertical pamorama?
Several parametric editors can stitch a multiple shot panorama (vertical or horizontal). I use Affinity Photo for such a task.

Having purchased Luminar AI some time ago, it has just been sitting on my computer, neglected.

I have decided it’s time to learn it, being winter and all, and I am a complete novice with the program. This is a photo I have been working on, how successfully I’m not sure--we shall see how it goes.

I have, as Robert Frost said, miles to go.

And as someone said: "when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
You clearly met the challenge. Nice job John. Luminar AI is so powerful that it pays to visualize a tad before editing, and then it will feel like a good glove.

There are a couple of options:
~Platform. A steady platform (bean bag, monopad, tripod, camer chest brace) together with a remote release (cable or wireless).
~Burst shooting (BS). BS will gurantee that some lf your shots will be on the money.
~Focus. Use focus-tracking so that when you inadvertently subtlety move, the subject will remain in focus.
~Settings. Another option is to use shutter priority and select a shutter speed above 1600, with a high ISO (800 +).
A combination of the above, will address your specified goal.

These are my two cents although I defer to others with more pertinent suggestions.
I am glad that you see a stumbling block as an opportunity to move up higher.
Happy New Year.

The photogs are capturing the speaker. We need to focus on what he/she had to say.
I'm sorry but this is a serious issue, people died, some where injured or displaced. Others were traumatized to the point where the click of a shutter would be considered insignificant.
I find your complaint petty and detached from the gravity of the issue.
