There is just something about the DF, it makes you feel good when you carry it. It does everything I want, great low light capability. It is my go to carry around camera even though I have plenty that have more MP's. I just love composing with it. Kind of like the allure of a Leica I suppose.
Cedar Key is great for the peacefulness of it. If you are up in the penisula section got to Stinkey's restaurant on 30A. Greart seafood and a wonderful creole style brunch. Crawfish pie is great. Don't worry about the name.
And a few eating places you do not want to miss. Jordan Pond House is In Acadia and they have popovers and tea in the afternoon on the lawn. The Dry Dock in Portland is a dive but have great lobster rolls and to die for Bloody Mary's. Southport has a great sefood place that is reasonable with the usual lobsters, clams and scallops.
Boothbay Harbor is one of my favorite places. Great food and scenery. Don't miss Rockport or Camden. Wiscasset has red's which makes great Lobster rolls.
Many years ago, I visited my parents before I left for pilot training. In OTS, they told us that the round sleeve that we had carried all our pay records and not to lose it. My parents lived on a hill and I left the roll on top of my trusty Volvo. Got to the bottom of the hill and checked to make sure I had everything and my pay records were not there. Slowly went back up to my parents' house and saw my pay records merrily rolling down the hill.
And if all else fails, take out the battery and then reinsert it. You would not believe how often this has worked.
Gottten over a long time but the worst thing is I have made both my kids Nikon nuts,
I have been a Nikon user since 1968 when I got my First Nikon F in Tokyo while I was serving in Vietnam. Since then I have had all kinds of Nikon's and many lenses. I now have A d40, a D60 a D80, D200, D 5300, D4, D5,DF, D 810, D850. And the Z's intrigue me but I have so much invested in my current crop that I just can't pull the trigger. Maybe like all use old hogs, the world Has passed us on as well as Nikon. And I just have to add, the DF is my most used now in spite of all its flaws, I just love the thing.
Danang for a while then Saigon, Cam Ron bay, Hawaia , then later Paris for a wonderful trip of food and photos, Austria for same, switzerland for a trip with a friend and sking like I have never done it. Got my Nikon F in Japan in 70, and never went back. Also got a Samsung receiver and speakers, the receiver was hot but blew out the speakers in short order. Been to almost every state execpt Alaska and my son did that one for me. Fell in love with SanDiego but couldn't stay.
Boston has always been the worst for me. I fly out of Atlanta which is huge and it is always smooth. Boston took my strawberry preserves last time. It was in a sealed package, Specially bought due to the quality. Pissed me off. And they had to make sure that my fresh picked blueberries in a plastic container were really blueberries. Mayb blue bombs?
I've had the thing accidentally lock up which is frustrating and sometimes embarrassing when it happens.
I haven't been there in 30 years but I never failed to go to the Jordan Pond house and get popovers with fresh strawberry jam
I use a D5300 for real estate jobs I do because it is one of the few to have GPS capability. It is quite capable and takes exceptional pictures, Not as good as my 810 or my DF but good.
I have never on any trip needed anything larger than a 500. And that was a very rare occasion.
