Thanks Jerry-
She hasn't seen them yet, so looking forward to her reaction. What's amazing is she looks JUST like her mother when she started dance at this age! They do make great memories.

Our 4 year old grand-daughter is following in her mothers footsteps and had her first dance recital this weekend. Here are a few of the better ones I took. Hope you enjoy them.

Merlin was correct in IDing it as a Gray Hawk. The Gray Hawk is, as it's name suggests, shades of gray whereas the Red-shouldered has a lot of reddish not just on the shoulders but also on the breast. The Red-shouldered also has a lot of pale spotting on the wings and back. Love the speed trap comment. Good capture.

Went for a walk with relatives the other day and these were a couple of the photos I came away with. Notice the tongue on the Downy Woodpecker-it's barbed and loops all the way under the eye and around the skull to the top of the head! Hope you enjoy them.

Great Blue Heron hunting and grabbed a turtle! Decided it was not what he wanted for lunch and dropped it!

Finally got around to looking at some pics I took of vultures at a deer carcass and wanted to share some of them. Saw some interesting behavior like feeding juveniles and a very obvious pecking order. Didn't post some of the grosser pictures!

Here's some photos from our catering business. Taken on table, ready to serve and not in studio. Things to keep in mind are presentation, freshness and angle of photo (ie, straight overhead often doesn't work). These were all shot with a Canon flash mounted on a Canon EOS. Also, I took multiple shots and did some post-shoot processing on some of them. Have fun and enjoy. Remember-when you are served a dish, you first judge it with your EYES-if it doesn't LOOK appetizing, it may not taste appetizing.

I'm going to be taking an extended road trip in a couple of weeks, and I would really be interested in any thoughts/suggestions. My wife passed away a few months ago, and I've decided I need to get away for awhile. Here is my plan so far. Leaving from Milwaukee, I'm going to spend a couple of days in MN with some good friends. Then the trip will really start with a trip through the Badlands and a visit to Mt. Rushmore. From there, I am headed to Utah to visit a number of places, starting with Arches National Park. I was there a few years ago and did not get to Delicate Arch and want to visit that landmark this time. Next is a drive down highway 24 to Capitol Reef. From there to Bryce Canyon. Next is Zion National Park. The last 2 stops will be Monument Valley and Mexican Hat Rock. I plan to do some hiking (not the really hard stuff) and just take as many photos as I can. So any ideas you may have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could also consider Pipestone National Monument in SW Minnesota, in the town of Pipestone which is a gem. It contains the pipestone quarries where the Native Americans quarried the peacepipe stone-and still do. It's got a short loop trail, a very nice video show, a good museum/gift shop and some very interesting scenery. Old Stone Face is a pillar of rock where the warriors would jump to, plant arrow heads, and jump back. Supposedly, Sitting Bull performed this feat (the edges were greased, by the way.

You should enjoy it since it is just a short day trip.

Have fun on your trip.
