What drives me nuts is the word "at" at the end of a sentence. As an example "Where are you at?" Also it bothers me a bit when sentences end in a proposition. However that one is hard not to do!!
Is it possible that the camera set to shoot even through there was no card in the camera? If so a defect in the card or the camera could have made the card undetectable for a period of time. This would fit the result that you have.
This post got my interest because I thought the OP was talking about Kodak "Film Disks". I haven't seen them in about 50 years.
For those of us old enough to remember floppy discs of various kinds there were methods of indicating that the information on them is locked. Obviously that slot or slide could not effect the contents without the external reader/writer detecting it. Same idea with an sd card. It is rather surprising the things we will argue about on this site.
I really like Lightroom CC. It is the first step I take after a photo session. Easy to review and cull the collection of photos I seem to get, with only maybe 20% worth keeping. The processing of automatic adding people to their group is amazing, the only time I have had mis-assignments is with my grand kids matching some early baby pictures with their pictures now. Also easy to determine the photos that I want to put into a separate group to take into photoshop. I also like that on any of my platforms,(laptop, iPad, iPhone, desktop computer) all of my pictures are available. I don't like that I have to pay every year (I use the yearly plan), but for me it is worth it.
Even running on two computers at once could be a problem. I would not have the same photos open on both computers, if you did which one would be the correct version? Just a computer geek here and am very aware of such things as deadly embrace.

If you don't already use single point focus I would suggest trying this setup with back button focus...you can easily move the focus pint around with the toggle...with BBF you can use it as a single or continues focus...I don't think i would buy another lens or camera until working out my technique...
Again I am not familiar wit Nikon but on my Canon I also use BBF. I have one button set to one shot and the other set to AI Servo. As Charlienow says this works very well for both stationary and moving subjects.
I use canon but have the Sigma 150-600. It is ok for stationary subjects but the focus is too slow for BIF.
"I chuckle when I see some of our folks complaining about filling up storage cards and drives with high MegaPixel images. A TB Drive will hold 10,000 100MB Images, and a storage rack holding 20 10TB drives (2 million images) will easily set on top of (one of) the five drawer file cabinets we have a few thousand images stored in."
And that storage can be a RAID 5 storage so the failure of a single drive will not loose any information.
I photograph lots of wildlife and a few extra pixels let me do crops on the photos that my lens is not long enough and I can't get close enough. Do I need 100, probably not. And the large pixel count makes camera movement even more critical. Always trade offs.
The way I think of "crop factor" is that the lens produces the same image, the sensor is only capturing a part of that image in the center. As others have stated the lens does not change when moving to a different camera. The advantage of thinking of effective focal length is to compare it with 35mm film or sensor cameras that a lot of people have experience with. In my early film days my lens trio were prime 35, 50, and 135 mm lenses. I have a lot of experience with those and can compare to my present two cameras. BTW I often get a better image on my full frame camera (5D Mark IV) than with my crop frame (80D) even if I crop the full frame size to the same size as he crop frame.
Best buy and Fry's will match amazon prices. Still buy most of my stuff from local camera store (Action Camera in Roseville CA). I want to support them and try to keep them in business. They are great with a good selection of equipment both new and used. Let the customer handle the cameras, lenses,... Really don't want to loose the experience.
BTW amfoto1 (Alan's) picture of cat paws invoked a lot of feeling for me. I think I know from the photo exactly what the cat was feeling. A really great photo not doing anything I would do. Very creative.
