My experience with this particular camera store seems to be typical they run a bait and switch program I bought a Nikon 200 to 500 mm for what I believe to be a good price next day I got a call asking me if I wanted tripod collar lens hood and both in caps and cloth bag that the lens would fit in behold it comes up to the regular price there is no savings if you wish to experience the bait and switch program by all means

I had the very same experience had a conversation with Nikon USA about it the lens that I had bought came out of Bangkok was not intended for US market so it was gray market they are aware of them but since they’re not an authorized dealer there’s very little they’re willing to do Had I Done researched on them I would not took the in the end I paid full list price for a lens that I could’ve gone across the street to the camera store and bought the Better Business Bureau Have a long list of complaints and when you Google them there’s pages of people who experience the same thing you and I have lesson learned

I'm having second thoughts already.

You should buy it as a used camera the warranty may not be enforce regardless of where it came from it’s the same camera where you to bought in Asia or in the United States I’ve had nothing go wrong with My D 500 in the last several years

I'm going to look at a used D500 with 21000 actuations for $800. Great price. I asked if it's grey market or USA. The seller states that it's USA. How would I know??

First let me say just buy it $ 800 for whatever reason The warranty depending is good or not depends on how old it is there’s plenty a reparable camera repair stores that will work on it for a reasonable price

But if you still want to know you can do what I did when I bought a Lens from a less than honest camera store on the East Coast I contacted Nikon give them the serial number and they were able to tell me where the lens was intentionally set to Like Asia [ Bangkok. Thailand. ] it turned out the lens was originally sent to Bangkok for sale there and was shipped to United States [ gray market] They assured me that if anything went wrong with the lens they would fix it but it $800 sounds like a good deal I use a D 500 and I love it . It is worth the price being Gray market don’t mean a whole lot if something happens to it there’s a lot of places that can fix it

I live in San Diego and I’ve done business with them and had no problems usually if there’s a problem I take it back and they happily take care of it I’ve been doing Business With them for the last 25 years but the best offense to anything is to be a knowledgeable customer I’ve taken serval Lens I’ve bought off eBay With various problems and they were able to take care of it if you live in San Diego and you’re able to physically go in this is the best way to do business with anybody good luck

I bought three lenses that were damaged goods and took it to a technician in town who was able to resurrect them and it worked perfectly now but I warn you you run the risk of not getting your money back if it cost $1000 that lens better cost new 8000 it’s best to spend $300 on the lens and if it doesn’t work sell off as parts good luck

I still have an AE one that I bought new a New A one that I bought new when It first came out eons ago there’s a place in town that still works on them if they happen to break down but they’ve been flawless over the decades I have not shot film in a very long time but I still hold onto them I think it’s a good idea if you just put in the case and hold onto them
